Antigua to Chichicastenango Market: Shuttle Times & Prices [2026]

Chichicastenango hosts the largest indigenous market in Central America — and it runs Thursday and Sunday only. Every scheduled tourist shuttle is built around those two days. Get the day wrong and there is no market and no shuttle.

That single constraint drives the whole trip. Below are the published departure times and fares.

From Antigua — Thursday & Sunday only

The round trip gives you roughly four hours at the market — the standard visit.

From Guatemala City / GUA airport

That last option exists for a reason: it puts you in town the evening before so you can be at the market early, when the Mayan ceremonies on the church steps and the produce trading happen — before the tour groups arrive mid-morning.

From Panajachel

The operator publishes this as a through-service to Guatemala City. It does not publish a simple Panajachel round trip, so if you want to return to Panajachel the same day, ask the operator directly rather than assuming a price.

Paying: USD or quetzales?

The operator states its fares in dollars and converts at its own rate:

“ALL prices are in USD$ (for reference), USD$1 = Q8 Quetzales – Service by Reservation with Partial/Complete Payment Only.”

The Banco de Guatemala reference rate on 22 July 2026 was Q7.62466 per US dollar. Paying cash in quetzales at the operator’s Q8 rate therefore costs about 5% more than the market rate — on a USD$40 round trip that is roughly Q15 extra. Small, but if you are paying in cash it is worth knowing which currency you are quoted in.

Note also that this operator requires reservation with partial or full payment in advance.

Planning the day

• Check the day before anything else. Thursday and Sunday. Everything else follows from that.
• Go early. The 05:30 airport departure and 07:00 Antigua departure exist because the market is at its most authentic early. By late morning the aisles nearest the church are mostly tour groups.
• Chichi works well as a hop, not just a round trip. The USD$35 Antigua→Chichi→Panajachel and USD$55 GUA→Chichi→Panajachel services let you fold the market into a move to Lake Atitlán rather than backtracking. If you are heading to the lake anyway, this is the efficient routing.
