Guatemala City Airport to Antigua: Shuttle Times & Prices [2026]

La Aurora International Airport (GUA) sits in Zone 13 of Guatemala City, about 40 km from Antigua Guatemala. The drive takes roughly an hour outside rush hour.

There are four ways to make the trip. Only one of them has a published, checkable price — which is the single most useful thing to know before you land.

Published shuttle schedule and fares

These are the departure times and fares Guatemala Transportation publishes for the route. Quetzal figures below are converted at the Banco de Guatemala reference rate of Q7.62466 per USD (22 July 2026) — operators quote in dollars, so the dollar figure is the one that stays fixed.

⚠️ If you pay in cash quetzales, expect to pay more than the converted figure. This operator states: “ALL prices are in USD$ (for reference), USD$1 = Q8 Quetzales.” At its own Q8 rate a USD$18 fare is Q144 rather than the Q137 market conversion — about 5% more. The operator also requires reservation with partial or full payment in advance.

The pre-dawn 03:00 and 04:00 departures exist for early international flights and cost more than the daytime runs. Note the direction is not symmetrical — leaving Antigua in daylight is cheaper than arriving.

Other operators and booking platforms sell the same route; GuateGo, GetYourGuide and Viator all resell shuttles. Prices move with operator and season, so treat the table above as one operator’s published rate rather than a market-wide fixed price.

The four options

Shared shuttle — the only pre-published price

Door-to-door to hotels in central Antigua. Book online in advance or at a shuttle desk in the arrivals hall. The trade-off is waiting: shared services fill seats before departing, and the 16:30 run needs 3 passengers to go at all.

Uber — no published fare

Uber operates at GUA, but it publishes no fare estimate for this route. Its official GUA airport page simply says to enter your destination in the app for a price. Follow the app’s instructions to find your driver and look for signs to ground transportation.

Uber’s own safety instruction is worth quoting: “For your safety, do not accept trips from solicitors offering Uber rides inside the terminal or at the ground transportation zones.” People will approach you inside the terminal claiming to be your driver. They are not.

Verify the driver’s name, licence plate and car colour in the app before you get in.

Private transfer — quoted on request

Guatemala Transportation offers private service “at any time according to your needs,” with pricing given on request rather than published. Hotels in Antigua will also arrange a car. For a group of three or four, ask for a quote and compare it against per-person shuttle fares before assuming either is cheaper.

Official airport taxi — confirm the fare first

Authorised taxis wait outside arrivals. We have not found a published tariff for the airport-to-Antigua run, so agree the fare before you get in rather than relying on a number from a guide. Its advantages are availability at any hour and no app required.

Practical notes

• Traffic decides your trip length. A 06:00 arrival means clear roads and about 50 minutes. A 16:00 arrival can mean 90 minutes or more.
• You may not need quetzales immediately. Shuttle fares are quoted in dollars and Uber takes cards in-app, but cash is useful for tips and small purchases.
• SIM cards in arrivals. Tigo and Claro kiosks sell prepaid SIMs — useful if you plan to call an Uber. See our phone plans guide.

• Heading somewhere else first? The same operator runs the airport direct to Chichicastenango on market days (Thursday and Sunday only) and to El Paredón surf beach — both via Antigua, so breaking the trip in Antigua is usually cheaper.
