El Paredón is Guatemala’s Pacific surf village — black sand, a river-mouth break, and no coastal highway running through it. Getting there means a shuttle, and the published fares vary by a factor of two depending on where you start.

Antigua is the cheapest gateway by a wide margin, and the services from Guatemala City run via Antigua anyway.

Three things the fare table tells you

1. Break the journey in Antigua. Guatemala City to El Paredón is USD$38–45 and routes through Antigua regardless. Antigua to El Paredón is USD$20. If you have the time, the two-leg trip costs less and gives you Antigua.

2. Panajachel’s cheaper option is the later one. The 13:00 direct is USD$30; the 05:00 service is USD$35. That is the reverse of what you would expect, so check the time before booking on price.

3. The lake connection runs one way each day. Every Atitlán-origin departure is early-afternoon (13:00–14:30) and every return to the lake is morning-to-early-afternoon (08:00, 13:00). El Paredón and Lake Atitlán connect well as consecutive stops, but there is no evening service in either direction.

Practical notes

  • Reservation with payment in advance is required by this operator — it is not a turn-up-and-go service.
  • Paying in dollars vs quetzales: the operator states “ALL prices are in USD$ (for reference), USD$1 = Q8 Quetzales.” The Banco de Guatemala reference rate on 22 July 2026 was Q7.62466/USD, so settling in quetzales at the operator’s Q8 rate costs about 5% more than the market rate.
  • We do not publish chicken-bus fares for this route. Camionetas via Sipacate exist but publish no tariff, and any figure quoted for one is an estimate rather than a published price.
