How to Get to El Paredón: Shuttle Times & Prices [2026]

El Paredón is Guatemala’s Pacific surf village, and getting there means a shuttle. Four sellers publish schedules to or from it, and on their own pages the fare depends mostly on where you start: USD$18-25 between Antigua and the beach, USD$30-35 between Lake Atitlán and the beach, USD$33-45 between Guatemala City and the beach. All fares below were read on the sellers’ own pages on 25 September 2026, per person, in US dollars.

Antigua is the cheapest starting point in these fares, and Guatemala Transportation’s services from Guatemala City run via Antigua anyway.

Before you book, it is worth knowing what the ocean is doing: El Paredón sits in the municipio of Sipacate, one of INSIVUMEH’s eight published Pacific forecast points, and today’s wave height, period and swell direction for it are on our Pacific marine forecast.

Getting to El Paredón

AtitlanTour’s schedule lists no departure to El Paredón from the lake; it sells the return trips below.

Where the Antigua shuttles stop. Atitrans picks up at Café La Parada (6a Avenida Norte No. 42), Parque de Santa Rosa, Tanque de la Unión or Casique Real; its booking form lists Super 24 El Paredón as the drop-off, while its route details say your hotel or address. Adrenalina picks up at Café La Parada, Parque Santa Rosa or Tanque La Unión, and drops at the Embarcadero, Café de La Abuela, Super 24 or La Pecerita. Guatemala Transportation publishes no stops for this route.

From Guatemala City or the airport

Only Guatemala Transportation sells a through ticket: 06:00 for USD$38 or 12:00 for USD$45 (minimum 2 passengers), both via Antigua. The alternative is two tickets. The Guatemala City/airport to Antigua shuttle costs USD 15 with Adrenalina Tours (06:00, 11:00, 13:30; 1.30 hours; from selected pick-up points only), USD$17 with AtitlanTour and USD$18 with Guatemala Transportation (both 05:30, 10:30, 14:30, 16:30; Guatemala Transportation’s 16:30 needs 3 passengers), and from USD 18 with Atitrans. Add USD$20 from Antigua to the beach and the cheapest pair is USD 35 (Adrenalina plus Guatemala Transportation or Atitrans), against USD$38 for the 06:00 through ticket. On Adrenalina’s published 1.30 hours, its 06:00 reaches Antigua before the 09:00 beach departures and its 11:00 before the 14:00 ones; Adrenalina itself warns that this collective shuttle usually runs late in city traffic. AtitlanTour and Guatemala Transportation publish no duration for the airport leg. The airport leg itself is on Guatemala City airport to Antigua.

Coming from Monterrico

No seller we read publishes a Monterrico to El Paredón shuttle. Guatemala Transportation, AtitlanTour, Adrenalina Tours and Atitrans all sell Monterrico and El Paredón as separate trips from Antigua (read 25 September 2026). Guatemala Transportation and AtitlanTour say private service can be scheduled on request, without publishing a price. On the shared schedules the connection runs through Antigua:

The last Monterrico departure (15:00) leaves after the last Antigua to El Paredón shuttle (14:00), so on these schedules the trip takes a night in Antigua. Monterrico’s own shuttles are on Antigua to Monterrico.

What the fare tables tell you

1. Break the journey in Antigua. Guatemala City to El Paredón is USD$38-45 with Guatemala Transportation and routes through Antigua regardless. If you are already staying in Antigua, the same seller charges USD$20 from there, and Atitrans from USD 20.

2. From Panajachel, the 13:00 is the cheaper Guatemala Transportation option. Its 13:00 direct is USD$30; its 05:00, which goes through Antigua, is USD$35. Atitrans and Adrenalina both charge USD 35 and add a morning option (08:30 on Adrenalina’s booking page; 08:30 or 08:00 on Atitrans’ two listings).

3. The lake connection runs one way each day. Every lake-origin departure listed is between 05:00 and 14:30, and every return to the lake between 08:00 and 13:00. None of the four sellers publishes an evening departure in either direction.

4. Two prices for the same San Pedro shuttle. Guatemala Transportation’s schedule page lists San Pedro to El Paredón at 14:00 for USD$35; its San Pedro product page says 13:30 and USD$30. Confirm the time and price in writing when you book.

Practical notes

• Book ahead, with a deposit. Adrenalina asks for 48 hours’ notice. Guatemala Transportation asks for at least 24 hours and a deposit of 50% on its pages to El Paredón from Panajachel, San Pedro and San Lucas, and 40% on its El Paredón to Panajachel page, with the balance in cash to the driver; it says reservation payments are non-refundable.
• Luggage and surfboards: Adrenalina’s El Paredón booking pages allow one big bag and one handbag and charge USD 10 for each extra bag. AtitlanTour includes one suitcase and one handbag, charges extra for more, and asks you to notify surfboards and bicycles in advance to confirm space. Atitrans’ terms allow one carry-on bag and one suitcase, charge US$5 per additional piece depending on space, and ask for oversized luggage to be reported in advance (read 24 September 2026). Guatemala Transportation publishes no allowance on the pages we read, so ask before you pay.
• Two of the four sellers name the same company. Guatemala Transportation’s and AtitlanTour’s schedule pages both name Casa Alegre Tours in their booking terms, yet they print different fares for El Paredón to Antigua at the same two times (USD$18 and USD$20).
• Paying in dollars vs quetzales: Guatemala Transportation states “ALL prices are in USD$ (for reference), USD$1 = Q8 Quetzales”. Compare with today’s quetzal rate before paying in quetzales.
• We do not publish chicken-bus fares for this route: no camioneta operator we found publishes a tariff or timetable for it.
