Antigua to Tikal is the longest hop on most Guatemala itineraries, and the real question is not which bus company you like. It is what the trip costs you in time: a daylight day in a minivan, a night on a Pullman, or under an hour in the air.
Quick summary
- No direct Antigua-Flores bus exists. Everything is either a minivan running the whole way or a shuttle to Guatemala City plus a Pullman. Fuente del Norte’s booking engine does not sell an Antigua origin.
- Daylight shuttle: departs 04:00, US$60 with Adrenalina Tours, one stop in Río Dulce, drop at the I love Peten letters — hotel drop-off is “forbidden locally”.
- Overnight: departs Antigua 18:30, US$70 per person, bus out of Guatemala City at 22:30, Santa Elena around dawn.
- Flying: 50-60 minutes gate to gate, seven to eight GUA-FRS departures a day. No airline published a fare we could read, so price it yourself.
- Book 48 hours ahead, prepaid — the operator’s own rule, and only one bus a day serves this pair.

Kahk Bahlam and Maya de Oro publish no Antigua-origin price on their own sites — those figures come from the resellers Marvelus Travel and CheckMyBus, and are attributed accordingly.
The overnight: shuttle, then Pullman, step by step
This is the option most people actually want, because it costs a hotel night instead of a sightseeing day.
- Antigua pickup, 18:30. Adrenalina Tours picks you up at “Your hotel / address” and runs you “door to door to the bus station Fuente de Norte in Zone 1 Guatemala City”. If you would rather do this leg yourself, our Antigua to Guatemala City guide covers the road options.
- The terminal. Fuente del Norte’s Guatemala City station is 17 Calle 8-46, Zona 1. Its Santa Elena counterpart is Mercado Nuevo Santa Elena, Zona 2.
- The Pullman, 22:30. The operator’s own line is “The bus leaves at 22.30 pm from Guatemala city” — and an earlier 21:00 bus is possible if you tell them in advance, which it says is at your own risk. The ticket is for a FUENTES DEL NORTE / Maya de Oro Pullman.
- Classes, as the engine quotes them. Queried on 12 September 2026 for a 20 September departure, Fuente del Norte’s booking engine returned Q262.50 on every Guatemala City → Santa Elena departure, plus a second Q315 tier on the 15:00, 21:00 and 22:00 runs under the labels “Maya de Oro GL” and “Clase Oro / Maya de Oro”; the early departures read “Económica Extra”. Its carrier filter lists three brands on this route: PIONERA, ROSITA and MAYA DE ORO. - Arrival. The bus stop is “SANTA ELENA, opposite FLORES from where you have to take a taxi or tuc tuc to FLORES (not included)”. Budget for that last hop.
The daylight shuttle: one stop, and it is in Río Dulce
Adrenalina’s 04:00 product is “a straight shuttle service in a small mini van (22 seater)” — a Coaster, “Not a pullman”. It runs every day, picks up at your hotel, and makes exactly one stop: “There is only one one stop provided in RIO DULCE (after about 6 hours) in Cafe Califato, mall Parador del rio.” That is the halfway mark — the same corridor covered on our Guatemala City to Río Dulce page.
Two things to be clear-eyed about. First, the drop-off: “Shuttle service DOES NOT drop off people in hotels in FLORES (forbidden locally)”, so you are left at the I love Peten letters, or El Planchon in Marvelus’s wording. Second, the clock: Adrenalina lists “Duration: 12 hours”, but its own times — 04:00 out, “The approximately arrival time in Flores is at 19 pm” — are 15 hours apart, and CheckMyBus independently times the same 04:00 departure at 15h 0m. Plan for fifteen.
The operator also warns that “Collective shuttles are NOT punctual, you need to be 15 minutes before ready”, and flags its own listings: “DUE TO COVID-19, not all information about collective shuttles is accurate.” Treat the timetable as a plan, not a guarantee.
Flying: the schedule, not the price
Guatemala City (GUA) to Flores (FRS) is a direct hop of about 269 km flown by TAG Airlines and Avianca, with a flight time FlightsFrom gives as “1 hour and 00 minutes”. For the week of 21-27 September 2026 the published pattern is:
- Avianca, Airbus A320, daily: AV704 06:05→06:55, AV700 18:00→18:50, AV702 21:30→22:20 (50 minutes each).
- TAG, ATR 72: 5U110 05:45→06:45 daily; 5U140 08:50→09:50 (Tue/Wed/Thu/Sat/Sun) or 09:30→10:30 (Mon/Fri); 5U160 12:30→13:30 (Mon/Wed/Fri) or 12:50→13:50 (Sat); 5U150 16:10→17:10 (Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun) or 16:50→17:50 (Mon/Wed/Fri); 5U120 19:10→20:10 (Tue/Thu/Sat/Sun) or 19:45→20:45 (Mon/Wed/Fri).
FlightsFrom’s airline panel counts TAG at “4-5 daily flights” and Avianca at “3 daily flights”, so the practical answer is seven to eight departures a day, first at 05:45 and last at 21:30. Avianca’s frequency is genuinely daily: a February 2026 release announced it moving to three daily frequencies on Guatemala City-Flores from 29 March 2026, up from two. Some travel wikis still say three times a week — that is out of date.
We are not publishing a fare. TAG’s site returned HTTP 403 and Avianca’s returned no body when checked on 12 September 2026, so any price here would be invented. Price it yourself, then compare against the US$60-75 the road products cost. Our flights hub covers the international legs into GUA.
The hours math
Set the money aside and count hours, because that is the real difference:
- Daylight shuttle: out of your hotel at 04:00, at the Flores letters around 19:00. That is the entire usable day, gone, with one stop six hours in.
- Overnight combination: Antigua 18:30 → Guatemala City → 22:30 Pullman → Santa Elena about 06:30. Twelve hours, and the night — a reclining seat instead of a hotel bed, and a taxi across to Flores at the end.
- Flying: 50 to 60 minutes gate to gate, inside a window running 05:45 to 21:30. Even allowing for the road transfer from Antigua to the airport and check-in, it is the only option that does not consume a day or a night.

The Ministry of Culture’s Tikal page puts the park “a tan solo 63 km de la ciudad de Flores, Petén (1 hora)” — about an hour out — with entry at Q150 for foreign visitors and Q25 for nationals.
