Flores to Palenque (Mexico) via El Ceibo: Shuttles, Border & Fees [2026]

Flores to Palenque is a one-border, one-day trip: a shuttle leaves Flores at 08:00, crosses into Mexico at El Ceibo and drops you at Palenque’s ADO bus station about eight hours later. Of the sellers’ own pages we read, only one publishes the Flores-to-Palenque direction and three publish the way back; a third-party guide lists three more sellers. Everything here was read from the sellers’ and authorities’ own pages on 24 September 2026.

Quick summary

The shuttle from Flores

Why the pick-up is at the letters. Adrenalina does not collect from hotels on the island; its Antigua page says hotel drop-offs in Flores are forbidden locally, and our Flores to Belize City guide covers the same rule. Adrenalina’s Palenque page says the vehicle changes at the border and that there is a migration office on both sides, so you get your Guatemalan exit stamp and your Mexican entry stamp at El Ceibo.

Other sellers, from a third-party guide. Guatemala Transport Service, a travel guide updated 29 March 2026, lists Reino Kan Travels at USD 59, a Travel Mundo Maya bus at 08:00 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for USD 67, and Marvelus by minivan at USD 76.80 for one passenger. These are the guide’s figures; we did not confirm them with the sellers.

The El Ceibo border

The practical reading: the only daily hours are Guatemala’s 09:00-18:00. If you cross independently, cross on a weekday, between 09:00 and 15:00, when every published window on both sides is open.

The river route. Mexico’s migration institute also lists Frontera Corozal, on the Usumacinta, as a designated crossing point. Nichim Tours, a San Cristóbal agency, sells a Palenque-Flores product that uses a boat from Frontera Corozal to Bethel on the Guatemalan side. We found no timetable for that boat and no Flores-side seller for it, so we do not describe it further.

Documents and fees

• Fees: Guatemala charges no exit fee: none of the border-control lines in the migration tariff in force (Acuerdo IGM-029-2023, Art. 4.2) is one, and the only legitimate charge on the way out is the overstay fine. Mexico does not charge its visitor fee for land stays of seven days or less, according to an INM land-entry sheet that sits under a 2015 path on INM’s site; INM’s 2026 fee sheet for the southern border (published 31 December 2025) lists only the regional-card replacement and border-worker fees and does not restate the seven-day rule. • Tarjeta de Visitante Regional (TVR): free, valid 5 years, for nationals of Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras and for foreigners who are permanent residents of those countries. It allows visits of up to seven days to Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Quintana Roo and Yucatán, and is issued at the southern entry points on a passport, personal identity document or identity-and-travel document (original and copy), with biometrics and an interview. It does not allow paid work.
• FMM online: INM’s portal lets foreigners entering by land fill in the FMM before the trip, but the form is released only after the fee is paid on INM’s services portal. If your stay is seven days or less and therefore fee-free, the online route is built for people who pay; deal with the form at the INM post instead, and ask there. The TVR’s five states include Chiapas, where Palenque is.

A claim to check before you leave Mexico. Adrenalina’s Palenque page tells travellers leaving Mexico that they must first download and print a form from an INM portal, or they “will not be able to cross”. We could not confirm that requirement on an INM page. If you are heading back to Guatemala, ask your hotel or the seller in Palenque what INM is asking for that week.

Coming back: Palenque to Flores

Adrenalina also sells Palenque to Guatemala City in one go: shuttle to Flores plus the overnight bus, USD 95, about 20 hours, arriving at a bus station in zona 1.

Safety

The UK Foreign Office reports an increase in security incidents in Tabasco, with frequent illegal roadblocks, and advises against all but essential travel on Federal Highway 199 between Rancho Nuevo (outside San Cristóbal) and the Chancalá junction outside Palenque, the road onward from Palenque to San Cristóbal.
