inDrive is the ride-hailing app where you name the price. It has operated in Guatemala since June 2018, when Guatemala City became its first city in Central America, and by inDrive’s own count it has carried more than 94 million trips in the country. What it does not publish is a list of Guatemalan cities or any fare table: the app decides both at your address. Everything here was read on 2 October 2026.

Quick summary

  • How fares work: you offer a price, drivers accept or counter, you pick a driver by arrival time, rating and price. inDrive suggests starting about 20% below other services.
  • Where: inDrive’s releases name Guatemala City (with Mixco, Villa Nueva and Carretera a El Salvador at launch), Quetzaltenango, and Cobán, the Verapaces and Tactic (2025). There is no official city list; if your address does not appear in the app, inDrive does not operate there.
  • Payment: depends on location; drivers can accept cash, card or online wallets, and the app shows what applies before you request.
  • Modes: city rides by car, Moto (launched in Cobán in 2025), Confort and XL in some locations, and City to City intercity rides.
  • vs Uber: Uber publishes four Guatemalan cities (Escuintla, Guastatoya, Guatemala City, Quetzaltenango); inDrive publishes none.

How an inDrive ride works

From inDrive’s Guatemala city-rides page and help centre:

  1. Open the app and choose Ciudad (City). Enter your pick-up (De) and destination (A).
  2. Offer your fare. inDrive suggests trying about 20% less than other transport services and says it will tell you if your offer is too low. In some cities the app recommends a fare for the route.
  3. Drivers accept or counter-offer. You see each driver’s rating, number of trips and reviews, and choose.
  4. Check the car. inDrive’s safety page says the driver’s appearance, plate and car model must match the app; if they do not, cancel and contact support.
  5. Pay as agreed, by a method the request form showed (cash, card or online wallet, depending on location).

Where inDrive works in Guatemala

inDrive does not publish a Guatemalan city list. Its help centre gives the test: type an address or city in the app, and if the location does not appear, inDrive does not operate there. The places inDrive itself has named:

Antigua, Panajachel and the Lake Atitlán towns are not named in any inDrive release we read. That is not a statement that no driver will take you there; it means the app is the only place to find out.

Safety features inDrive publishes

  • Driver verification: licence, ID and other required documents checked when drivers register; profile photos are real selfies taken during verification.
  • Masked phone numbers when you call or message a driver in the app.
  • Share your trip in real time with family or friends, and save trusted contacts that inDrive will notify in an emergency.
  • Emergency button on the trip screen to call emergency services.
  • Seat belts and options: inDrive tells passengers to wear a seat belt even on short trips, and to flag child seats, bulky luggage or pets before the trip starts.

For drivers, and the bill in Congress

  • Requirements on inDrive’s Guatemala driver page: at least 25 years old; at least 3 years of driving experience with a category B licence, or 5 years with category D; minibus drivers of any type need a transport licence (read 2 October 2026).
  • Commission: inDrive’s blog says its driver fees run from 0.0% to a maximum of 10.64%, depending on the country; it gives no Guatemala-specific rate. At the 2018 launch and again in Cobán during February 2025, drivers paid no commission for the launch period.
  • Labour bill: on 25 September 2026 Infobae reported that deputy Samuel Pérez and five other deputies filed an initiative to bring app drivers and couriers under the Código de Trabajo, with IGSS affiliation. It still has to be heard by the plenary before going to a committee. It is a bill, not law.

inDrive by the numbers (its own figures)

  • 2018: launch in Guatemala City; more than 1,200 cars connected in the capital at launch (Revista E&N).
  • 2025: 875,000 downloads in Guatemala (PDCC, 4 June 2026).
  • Since launch: more than 94 million trips and 564 million kilometres in Guatemala (same release).

These are company figures published through a press outlet, not audited numbers.

What is not published

  • A list of Guatemalan cities where inDrive operates.
  • Any Guatemalan fare table, minimum fare or per-kilometre rate.
  • The commission inDrive charges drivers in Guatemala.
  • Whether Antigua, Panajachel or the Lake Atitlán towns have inDrive drivers (none of the releases we read names them).
