Take a public lancha from Panajachel’s Muelle Tzanjuyú to Santa Cruz La Laguna: Free Cerveza’s getting-here page lists Q25 per person, cash only, and a 15-minute crossing, checked 25 October 2026. Isla Verde places the public dock at the end of Calle del Embarcadero. Published operating hours differ, so confirm the return boat from Santa Cruz with the captain rather than treating a Panajachel departure window as a return timetable.

Quick summary

Public fare and crossing time

The Asociación de Lancheros San Juan Bautista publishes Q25 to the towns on its Panajachel–San Juan route, including Santa Cruz. Its municipal-site page was updated 4 April 2025 and checked 25 October 2026: the check date does not make it a newly issued tariff.

Free Cerveza’s Santa Cruz arrival instructions independently list Q25 per person, cash only, read 25 October 2026, and give the crossing as 15 minutes. Isla Verde’s arrival page instead lists Q20-Q25 per person to its hotel, read 25 October 2026. The association does not publish a local-versus-foreigner split; the different hotel figures do not establish one.

Finding the dock and boarding

Free Cerveza names Muelle Tzanjuyú, the public dock in Panajachel, for the boat to Santa Cruz. Isla Verde locates that dock at the end of Calle del Embarcadero. Free Cerveza says no booking is needed for the public boat: passengers can show up and board.

Name the actual arrival dock when arranging the crossing. Free Cerveza says most drivers will drop guests at its private dock without an extra charge, or guests can use the Santa Cruz main dock. Isla Verde asks guests to request its private dock. Those hotel instructions are specific to the properties; they do not mean every boat stops at every private dock.

The association asks passengers to follow the captain’s instructions and wear a life jacket, correctly fastened, including for children.

First boats, frequency and the last return

The sources publish different windows, including different hours on Free Cerveza’s own pages. All were checked 25 October 2026.

The association also publishes 06:00–17:30 from San Juan toward Panajachel, with boats every 20 minutes. That is a departure window from San Juan, not a last-boat time from the intermediate Santa Cruz dock. None of these windows establishes a guaranteed final Santa Cruz–Panajachel departure. Confirm the return departure locally before planning around it.

Private boat prices for this route

Simoon, read 25 October 2026, lists these capacity-priced offers under its private Panajachel–Santa Cruz water taxi:

Private serviceCapacityBoat priceSource and date read
Panajachel–Santa Cruz private water taxiUp to 4 passengersUS$30Simoon; 25 October 2026

Simoon says passengers choose the time and place for its private boat taxi. Confirm the route-specific price when booking: the same private-water-taxi section also displays a general From US$50 heading, alongside those route entries. The listed boat prices are not public fares per person.

Santa Cruz dock, waterfront hotels and the upper village

The public dock and a hotel landing are different arrival points. Free Cerveza describes a 5-minute walk from the Santa Cruz main dock to its hostel: turn left off the dock and follow the path. Isla Verde says arrival at its private dock avoids a 10-minute walk from the main town dock.

Neither hotel walk is a timing for the ascent to the upper village. The hotel and community pages checked do not state a dock-to-village walking duration or a tuk-tuk fare or duration. For an upper-village destination, ask about that onward transfer separately from the boat crossing.

Hotel access restrictions also apply to the named property. Isla Verde describes its waterfront hotel as having no land access; that statement does not establish access conditions for the whole municipality.

Continuing to Jaibalito and Tzununá

The association lists the route out of Panajachel in this order: Santa Cruz, Jaibalito, Tzununá, San Marcos and San Pablo, toward San Juan. Jaibalito and Tzununá are therefore the onward stops after Santa Cruz on that published route.

For a longer journey, use the Panajachel to San Marcos guide. The Lake Atitlan lancha routes guide covers the wider boat network; the Lake Atitlan towns guide compares destinations around the lake.
