GuateShuttles lists Panajachel to El Tunco at 05:00 for Q500, connecting through Antigua around 10 AM; these details were checked on 25 October 2026. AtitlanTour lists a different journey: 04:00pm from Panajachel for US$65 per person, an overnight stay in Antigua with the hotel excluded, then departure from Antigua at 5:00am. Neither listing establishes a guaranteed arrival time for the full journey.
Quick summary
- Same-day connection: GuateShuttles describes switching vehicles in Antigua; its El Tunco duration is not specified.
- Overnight connection: AtitlanTour excludes the Antigua hotel from its US$65-per-person listing, checked 25 October 2026.
- Daily alternative: Ajachel lists Q650 with an Antigua connection, checked 25 October 2026, without a departure time or duration in the product description.
- San Pedro: Bookaway publishes route-wide details rather than a confirmed individual departure and fare.
- Border preparation: El Salvador’s migration authority requires a passport and valid remaining regional time for foreign visitors already in CA-4.
Published Panajachel departures and fares
The following seller pages were checked on 25 October 2026. The overnight stay is a material difference between these products.
| Seller | Departure from Panajachel | Published price, checked 25 October 2026 | Antigua connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| GuateShuttles | 05:00 | Q500 | Switch to the cross-border service around 10 AM |
| AtitlanTour | 04:00pm | US$65 per person | Overnight; hotel not included; departs Antigua at 5:00am |
| Ajachel | Not published | Q650 | Every day, with an Antigua connection |
GuateShuttles’ route explanation, dated 29 July 2026, specifies the vehicle change and says to allow the full day. Its El Tunco duration field is explicitly unspecified. The separate duration in its San Salvador FAQ applies to that destination, so it does not establish an El Tunco arrival time.
AtitlanTour’s schedule labels the beach route 8hrs, but the same listing requires an overnight stay in Antigua. That heading cannot be used as the total elapsed time from leaving Panajachel to reaching El Tunco. Its listed beach destinations include El Tunco; the overnight hotel remains an additional booking.
Ajachel’s product names El Tunco alongside Santa Ana and San Salvador and states an Antigua connection every day. The product does not give a departure time or duration; destination, pickup details and the actual departure remain points to settle before paying.
Average times and the San Pedro listing
Bookaway’s Panajachel listing identifies Eterna Primavera, with an average time of 8h 30m and an average price of US$68, checked 25 October 2026. These are reseller averages, rather than a dated fare offer or an operator-specific departure time.
For San Pedro La Laguna to El Tunco, Bookaway shows an earliest departure of 05:00, a latest departure of 07:00, a duration range of 10h and limited frequency. Its price range spans US$10-68, checked 25 October 2026; that range does not establish a purchasable low fare or a particular operator’s ticket price. Both Bookaway pages displayed a 27 October 2026 date context when checked, which does not make their averages or route ranges confirmed tickets for that day.
If your departure is from Panajachel, the Lake Atitlan lancha routes guide covers the boat leg separately. A lake transfer and its connection to the shuttle need their own arrangements; the shuttle listings above do not establish a boat connection.
Booking documents, border crossing and fees
GuateShuttles requires a photo of your passport’s information page and a WhatsApp number at booking for these Central America routes. Its article also states that it currently has no return shuttle from these destinations to Panajachel; this describes that seller’s bookings, rather than every service on the route.
The checked lake-origin seller pages do not identify the border crossing used. The crossing therefore remains a question for the seller handling your actual departure.
El Salvador’s migration FAQ says citizens of countries other than Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua must present a valid passport in good condition and check whether their nationality requires a visa. For foreign visitors already within CA-4, it requires a passport and valid remaining regional time based on the days granted in the first country entered. That wording does not establish a renewed allowance when arriving from Guatemala.
The FAQ does not state a current inbound tourist-card fee or nationality exemptions. Its statement that border migration registration has no cost answers a question about leaving El Salvador by land; it does not establish that every inbound charge is waived.
