A guided ATV tour from Antigua costs Q390 to Q520 per driver and Q215 to Q345 per passenger at Simoon Tours, depending on the route, and Q475 or Q515 per person at Earth Lodge. Every price here was read on the operator’s or selling agency’s own website on 1 October 2026; Simoon’s prices only load in the browser, so we read the rendered page.
The questions that matter are which route, whether you can drive (that depends on your licence), and whether you want a guide at all. This page takes them in that order.

How the mountain tours work. On the routes to Hobbitenango, the ATV takes you to El Hato, the mountain area above Antigua; you park there and ride the last stretch to Hobbitenango in Simoon’s 4x4 pickup truck. The Sky High tour does the same between Antigua Boreal and Altamira Eco Park, which Simoon puts at about 7,600 ft.
For the Cerro de la Cruz viewpoint on foot, or La Azotea and the other coffee farms without an ATV, see their own pages.
Earth Lodge: two ATV tours, one price for driver or passenger
Earth Lodge, the eco-lodge above Antigua, sells two ATV tours on its own site, both priced the same whether you drive or ride:
| Tour | Price | Length | Starts | Route |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ATV Pueblos | Q475 | 3 hours | 9 AM | a macadamia farm in San Miguel Dueñas, Ciudad Vieja, San Pedro Las Huertas, San Juan del Obispo (chocolate, níspero museum, wine tasting) |
| ATV Fincas | Q515 | 4-5 hours | 9 AM | Provenza lavender farm (a chocolate farm on Mondays), La Azotea coffee farm, then Valhalla macadamia farm |
Source: Earth Lodge ATV tours, checked 1 October 2026. Guests at the lodge take its free shuttle down to Antigua at 8:30 AM and the ATV shuttle brings them back up after the tour. Earth Lodge’s site says activities booked through external partners, tours included, must be cancelled at least 24 hours ahead or the full price is charged; ask whether that covers the ATV tours.
Driver or passenger, same price is the main difference from Simoon. At Simoon a passenger pays Q175 less than the driver on every Antigua tour (Q200 less on Pacaya); at Earth Lodge both pay Q475 or Q515.
Pacaya by ATV
Simoon also runs two ATV tours around Pacaya volcano, with transport from Antigua:
| Tour | Per driver | Per passenger | Length | Starts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pacaya Volcano Explorer | Q715 | Q515 | 6 hours | 8:30 AM or 12:00 PM |
| Pacaya Volcano ATV Adventure | Q935 | Q735 | 8 hours | 8:30 AM |
Source: Simoon Tours, Pacaya, checked 1 October 2026. The Explorer visits the wind turbines viewpoint, Calderas Lagoon and the petrified lava fields, and includes transport, a bilingual guide, the ATV, entrance and parking fees, water, a Gatorade and snacks; the longer Adventure starts in San Vicente Pacaya, crosses volcanic sand and lava inside a private plantation, and adds a sandwich and a buff. Neither enters the official trail or national park, Simoon says. If you want to walk up to the lava field on the park trail, that is the Pacaya day hike, a different trip.
The licence rule
Simoon is explicit, on every tour listing:
- a valid driver’s licence is mandatory for anyone driving;
- passenger-only bookings are not accepted: each booking needs at least one driver rate;
- young travelers with a valid licence may drive their own ATV but must book at the adult rate, and on the Pacaya tours drivers under 18 must present a valid licence and book as adults.
Earth Lodge’s ATV page does not state a licence rule (checked 1 October 2026); ask when you book. For how foreign licences and Guatemalan licences work more generally, see our Guatemala driver’s licence guide.
Renting an ATV without a tour
Simoon, which lists offices in Antigua and Panajachel, rents automatic ATVs:
| Vehicle | 1 hour | 2 hours | 3 hours | 1 day | 1 week |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Automatic ATV 150cc | Q125 | Q225 | Q325 | Q450 | Q1,800 |
| Automatic ATV 180cc | Q150 | Q275 | Q375 | Q500 | Q2,000 |
Source: Simoon Tours rentals, checked 1 October 2026. Requirements as published: a Q500 cash deposit per vehicle and a valid driver’s licence (copy or scan). The rental includes a helmet and a full tank. Simoon prints its own exchange rate on the page, $1 = Q7.50, if you are paying in dollars.
On public roads, Guatemala’s traffic rules on helmets for riders and passengers are on our motorcycle helmet law page.
An agency price to compare
Antigua agency Adrenalina Tours lists an Antigua ATV Mountains Tour at 83 USD per person with transport and a Spanish-speaking guide. Its listing contradicts itself on the route and length (a 3-hour Santa María de Jesús summary above a 6-hour description that matches Simoon’s Mountain Tour word for word), so ask it which tour you are buying before you pay.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is an ATV tour in Antigua Guatemala?
At Simoon Tours, whose prices we read on its own website on 1 October 2026, the six Antigua ATV tours cost Q390 to Q520 per driver and Q215 to Q345 per passenger, depending on the route and length (3 to 6 hours). Earth Lodge sells two ATV tours at Q475 and Q515, the same price whether you drive or ride as passenger. Simoon’s two Pacaya ATV tours cost Q715 and Q935 per driver.
Do I need a driver's licence to drive an ATV in Antigua?
On Simoon Tours’ guided tours and rentals, yes. Every Simoon tour listing says a valid driver’s licence is mandatory for drivers, and its rentals need a valid driver’s licence (a copy or scan). Simoon also says passenger-only bookings are not accepted: there must be at least one driver rate per booking. Earth Lodge prices its tours as a choice of driver or passenger and does not state a licence rule on its ATV page (checked 1 October 2026), so ask when you book.
Can teenagers drive an ATV on the tour?
At Simoon Tours, only with a licence. Its listings say young travelers with a valid driver’s licence may drive their own ATV but must book at the adult rate, and its Pacaya page says drivers under 18 must present a valid driver’s licence and book as adults. Without a licence, a teenager rides as a passenger.
Can I rent an ATV in Antigua without a tour?
Simoon Tours rents automatic ATVs: a 150cc at Q125 for 1 hour, Q225 for 2, Q325 for 3, Q450 a day or Q1,800 a week, and a 180cc at Q150, Q275, Q375, Q500 a day or Q2,000 a week. It asks for a Q500 cash deposit per vehicle and a valid driver’s licence, and includes a helmet and a full tank.
Which ATV tour goes to Hobbitenango?
Simoon’s Antigua Mountain Tour (Q520 per driver, Q345 per passenger, from 9:15 AM) and its Sunset Tour (Q490 / Q315, from 2:15 PM, 5 hours) both go to Hobbitenango. On both, you ride the ATV to El Hato, park it, and go up to Hobbitenango in Simoon’s 4x4 pickup truck. Simoon’s Sunset Tour includes the Hobbitenango entrance.
Do the Pacaya ATV tours go up the volcano?
Not on the official trail. Simoon says its Pacaya Volcano Explorer tour does not enter the official Pacaya hiking trail, and its longer Pacaya ATV Adventure does not enter the San Vicente Pacaya National Park. The routes ride around the volcano instead: the Explorer starts at the base of the volcano and visits the wind turbines, Calderas Lagoon and petrified lava fields; the Adventure starts in San Vicente Pacaya and rides to Calderas Lagoon views and petrified lava flows.
