Transportes Fuente del Norte — registered as “Transportes Fuente Del Norte La Pionera, S.A.” — is the pullman operator of the Peten corridor, running the long haul between Guatemala City and Santa Elena/Flores, the gateway to Tikal.
Quick summary: Fuente del Norte publishes no fare table. On 12 September 2026 its booking engine quoted Guatemala City to Santa Elena, Flores at Q262.50 in the Clase A column (Clase B Q315 on three of the six departures, Q420 on one 9:00 pm return bus) for travel on 20 September; Melchor de Mencos Q283.50, Sayaxche Q262.50, Quetzaltenango Q78.75. Fourteen stations published, nine sellable online. Luggage 35 lb free, Q3.00 per excess pound, no animals on board.
Routes and stations
The operator publishes fourteen stations on its stations page, grouped by department. Only nine appear in the online booking menus, and both the “Desde” and “Hacia” selects carry the same nine.

Peten is the spine of the network. The San Marcos trio sits on the Mexican border side, but no Mexican destination is sellable in the operator’s system — for crossings see bus from Guatemala to Mexico, and across operators, buses in Guatemala.
Service classes: six marketing names, two booking columns
The services menu lists exactly six named services, spelled as follows: Clase Oro, Platino, Renta de autobuses y excursiones, Económica, Clase de Oro Gran Lujo and Encomieda (the site misspells “Encomienda” in its own navigation).
- Clase Oro — double-deck: reclining seats upstairs, 9 semi-cama seats below, air conditioning, toilet, monitors on both levels, two certified drivers.
- Clase de Oro Gran Lujo — Wi-Fi, two toilets, 48 seats upstairs and a “Planta Baja Ejecutiva” of 6 leather bed-seats, power at every seat. The operator’s own copy still calls this the “flota 2018”.
- Platino — first class: reclining seats, automated air conditioning, panoramic windows.
- Económica — the budget tier: individual seats and traveller insurance.
(Our summaries of the operator’s Spanish copy, not official English text.)
The gap worth knowing before booking: the booking engine uses none of those names. Its fare columns are labelled only “Hora” / “Clase A” / “Clase B”, and nothing says which commercial service each column is. We do not map Clase A onto Clase Oro, because the operator never states it.
A second quirk: the carrier selector holds three companies — PIONERA, ROSITA and MAYA DE ORO. Setting it to each returned an identical departure list on every route tested, so it does not filter the public flow; each departure row carries its own operating company instead.
Fares as quoted by the booking engine
All rows below were quoted on 12 September 2026 for travel on 20 September 2026. A dash means the Clase B seat was shown unavailable on that departure.
| Route (as named in the system) | Departure | Clase A | Clase B | Company shown in the row |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guatemala to Santa Elena, Flores, Peten | 5:45 am | Q262.50 | — | MAYA DE ORO |
| Guatemala to Santa Elena, Flores, Peten | 12:00 pm (two distinct buses) | Q262.50 | — | MAYA DE ORO |
| Guatemala to Santa Elena, Flores, Peten | 3:00 pm | Q262.50 | Q315 | MAYA DE ORO |
| Guatemala to Santa Elena, Flores, Peten | 9:00 pm | Q262.50 | Q315 | MAYA DE ORO |
| Guatemala to Santa Elena, Flores, Peten | 10:00 pm | Q262.50 | Q315 | MAYA DE ORO |
| Santa Elena, Flores, Peten to Guatemala | 8:30 am | Q262.50 | — | ROSITA |
| Santa Elena, Flores, Peten to Guatemala | 11:00 am | Q262.50 | — | ROSITA |
| Santa Elena, Flores, Peten to Guatemala | 7:30 pm | Q262.50 | — | ROSITA |
| Santa Elena, Flores, Peten to Guatemala | 8:00 pm | Q262.50 | Q315 | ROSITA |
| Santa Elena, Flores, Peten to Guatemala | 9:00 pm | Q262.50 | Q420 | ROSITA |
| Santa Elena, Flores, Peten to Guatemala | 10:00 pm | Q262.50 | — | ROSITA |
| Guatemala to Melchor de Mencos | 5:30 pm | Q283.50 | — | MAYA DE ORO |
| Guatemala to Melchor de Mencos | 8:00 pm | Q283.50 | Q346.50 | MAYA DE ORO |
| Guatemala to Sayaxche | 6:30 pm | Q262.50 | — | MAYA DE ORO |
| Santa Elena, Flores, Peten to Belice City | 6:00 am | Q157.50 | — | (all three carriers returned the same row) |
| Belice City to Santa Elena, Flores, Peten | 12:00 pm | Q157.50 | — | (same) |
| Guatemala to Quetzaltenango, Xela | 6:30 am | Q78.75 | — | PIONERA |
| Guatemala to Quetzaltenango, Xela | 3:30 pm | Q78.75 | — | PIONERA |
Treat these as quotes, not a tariff. A same-day check for travel on 12 September 2026 returned Guatemala to Santa Elena at Q262.50 on the 12:00 pm (Clase B unavailable) and Q262.50 / Q315 on the 9:00 pm and the 10:30 pm — so the 20 September board is representative, not a one-day artefact, though the departure set moves day to day. Melchor de Mencos, re-checked on 13 and 25 September 2026, came back at Q283.50 in Clase A every time on two buses a day: an early-evening departure (6:00 pm on 13 and 25 September, 5:30 pm on 20 September) and an 8:00 pm departure that also sells Clase B at Q346.50. Plan for around 5:30 to 6:00 pm, or 8:00 pm, and confirm for your date.
Sayaxche is the thinnest of the sellable routes: one bus, 6:30 pm, Q262.50 in Clase A, on both dates we queried (20 and 25 September 2026), with the operating company shown as MAYA DE ORO on the first and PIONERA on the second — the alternating-carrier pattern the operator’s own change-of-date rule describes.
El Naranjo, Esquipulas and Aguilar Batres returned no departures from Guatemala City on 20 September 2026 — the engine answered “No se encontraron salida para esa fecha” on each. The stations exist; nothing was sellable on them that day.

- Santa Elena/Flores to the capital: 8:30 am, 11:00 am, 7:30 pm, 8:00 pm, 9:00 pm, 10:00 pm.

What the operator does not publish
This matters as much as what it does:
- No journey durations anywhere on the operator’s site. Third-party resellers list roughly 9 to 10 hours for Guatemala City to Flores (Bookaway and Busbud listings, retrieved 12 September 2026), but that is a reseller’s figure, not the operator’s.
- Belize is sold from Santa Elena only: 6:00 am Santa Elena to Belice City and 12:00 pm back, Q157.50 each way on the 20 September board. A Guatemala City to Belice City query returned nothing, so there is no direct capital-to-Belize bus (see the FAQ below).
- No Coban service. The only mention anywhere is one history-page sentence: “Cuenta con servicio de santa elena a cobán.” There is no Coban station and no Coban in the booking list, so we publish no Coban fare or schedule — our Guatemala City to Coban guide covers that corridor.
- No Rio Dulce and no Puerto Barrios station. The nearest eastern station published is Rio Hondo, in Zacapa, and it is not sellable online.
- No per-terminal phone numbers. Only company-level contacts: PBX and WhatsApp 37637025, plus
00 (502) 7947 7070 on the charter page. The site prints its contact email as
transportesrosita141@gmial.com— that typo is on the live page, and we quote it as printed.
One reseller listing (Marvelus Travel, undated, retrieved 12 September 2026) states a 25 kg allowance for a “Clase Oro” Guatemala City to Flores service, contradicting the operator’s own 35-pound rule. Prefer the operator.
Luggage, parcels, animals and other rules
From the operator’s policy page:
- Luggage: 35 pounds included; Q3.00 per pound of excess. The company disclaims responsibility for valuables, fragile items, computer equipment, electronics and appliances.
- Animals: boarding with animals is prohibited outright. No service-animal exception is published.
- Also prohibited: boarding drunk or showing signs of drug use; alcohol and drugs; firearms and blades (hand them to the driver, who returns them at your destination); fireworks, explosives, solvents, gas tanks, paints and corrosives.
- Children: under 3 travel free without a seat; over 3 pay a full ticket; none may travel unaccompanied.
- Date changes: free up to 3 hours before departure at any ticket window, with the original ticket and valid official ID in the holder’s name; after that it is at the company’s discretion. A change is refused if there is no availability, if the seats carry different prices, if under an hour remains, or if a different company runs the new departure — which happens on routes where two companies alternate days (whichever runs day 1 of a month also runs days 3, 5, 7 and so on).
- Parcels (Encomieda): minimum Q25.00 per package, envelope or document, priced on weight or volume, whichever is greater. It travels the same day it is registered, on the last run, and is collected the next morning from 8:00 a.m.
How to book
- Online at transportesfuentedelnorte.com — the form takes an origin, a destination, “Solo ida” or “Ida y vuelta” and a travel date. Payment online is by Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card.
- At any terminal counter — cash, credit or debit, Visa and Mastercard.
- WhatsApp or PBX 37637025 for customer service; the charter page gives 00 (502) 7947 7070.
We link no reseller: the operator sells directly, and the reseller pages we checked carry routes its own system does not support.
The 1981 split with Litegua
The operator’s history page explains why you cannot buy a Fuente del Norte ticket to Puerto Barrios. In the company’s own words:
“en el año 1981 tuvo que dialogar con la empresa litegua para definir áreas de trabajo llegando al mutuo acuerdo de que Transportes Fuente Del Norte tendría la línea de transporte de guatemala a peten, y transportes litegua de guatemala a puerto barrios.”
(Our translation: in 1981 it had to negotiate with Litegua to define working areas, reaching a mutual agreement that Fuente del Norte would hold the Guatemala-Peten line and Litegua the Guatemala-Puerto Barrios line.)
That agreement still describes today’s map: Fuente del Norte’s stations run north into Peten, and the Caribbean corridor belongs to Litegua. The same page dates the company to 1958, the bananera line to 1964 and the Peten and Atlantic routes to 1969, and records it under patente de comercio 42723, folio 373, libro 136, registered 31 January 2000 and with SAT on 4 February 2000.
