How Many Days in Guatemala? 5, 7, 10 and 14-Day Routes Counted in Published Transfer Hours (2026)

“How many days in Guatemala” has a practical answer once you add up the transfers. The stops on the classic route are far apart by road, as the table below shows, and the time that decides your trip is the time spent in shuttles and planes. This page counts that time for four trip lengths, using only the journey times that operators and airlines publish, as collected on our route pages (each linked, most checked on 24 or 25 September 2026). How many nights you spend in each place is your choice; the transfer hours are the part that is fixed.

Quick summary: 5 days: Antigua + Lake Atitlán, about 8 to 11 hours of shuttles in total. 7 days: add Tikal by air (50 to 60 minutes each way to Flores, then about 1 hour to the park). 10 days: the full loop, Antigua → Atitlán → Semuc Champey → Flores/Tikal → fly back, about 21 to 25.5 hours of published transfer time plus about 2 hours to Tikal and back, three of them long road days. 14 days: the same loop with more nights, plus room for Chichicastenango or the Pacific coast. The legs, with their published times

Two things to see in that table. The Semuc Champey legs (9.5 to 12 hours in, 7 to 8 hours out) are the longest single days on the classic route. And the Guatemala City to Flores flight replaces a 9-hour bus or a 12-to-15-hour shuttle from Antigua, which is what makes Tikal possible on a short trip.

5 days: Antigua and Lake Atitlán

The last day matters for your flight. Our lake-to-airport page works out that with the 05:00 first shuttle and Atitrans’ 6.5 hours, you reach the airport around 11:30, which makes about 14:30 the earliest international departure that fits. 7 days: add Tikal by air

Day 5 only works with a flight to Flores in the afternoon or evening; the schedules on our Guatemala City to Flores page list departures from 05:45 to 21:30 (read 12 September 2026). Confirm times with the airline before you book the rest.

10 days: the full loop

That total is the sum of the legs: 1 + 2.5 + 9.5 + 7 hours plus a 50-minute flight at the low end, and 1.5 + 3 + 12 + 8 + 1 at the high end, before the drives to and from Tikal. 14 days: the same loop, slower

Fourteen days carries the same transfer total as the 10-day loop, about 21 to 25.5 hours plus the Tikal drives, so the extra four days go into nights, not roads. Options that add a short leg rather than a long one:
