Panajachel to Xela (Quetzaltenango): Shuttles, Buses & Fares [2026]

Panajachel and Xela are only about two and a half hours apart by the operators’ own figures, but the shuttle timetable is thinner than on the Antigua routes: one operator runs a daily afternoon shuttle with no minimum, one runs twice a day but needs two passengers, and the early-morning run is weekdays only. There is also a public bus, whose departure times the Municipality of Panajachel publishes. This page lists all of it as read on 24 September 2026.

Quick summary

• Daily, no minimum: Atitrans, 15:00, from $30, 2.30 hours, from central Panajachel hotels or the Tzanjuyú dock to your hotel in Xela.
• Cheapest: Adrenalina Tours, 09:00 and 15:00 daily, USD 25, minimum 2 people, at least one change of vehicle.
• Earliest: 05:00, Monday to Friday, USD$35 (Guatemala Transportation and AtitlanTour).
• Public bus: Transportes Flor del Paisaje at 05:00, 06:00 and 07:15 (Municipality of Panajachel). No fare published.
• Back from Xela: the bus at 11:45, 12:45 and 15:45; shuttles at 08:00, plus 07:00 on Thursdays and Sundays (minimum 2).

Reading the table. If you travel alone, the shuttles you can count on are Atitrans at 15:00 every day, or the 05:00 weekday run. Adrenalina’s USD 25 is the cheapest seat but needs a second passenger, and both USD$30 options need three.

The change of vehicle. Adrenalina says its service makes at least one change, at Los Encuentros or Cuatro Caminos. Atitrans publishes hotel-to-hotel service with no change mentioned.

Pickup and drop-off. Atitrans picks up at hotels in central Panajachel or at the Muelle de Tzanjuyú (where the lanchas dock) and drops at your hotel or address in Xela. Adrenalina publishes hotel or address at both ends, asks for 48 hours’ notice, and says it does not knock on doors — wait in front of your hotel.

Paying. Guatemala Transportation prices in dollars at its own Q8 per dollar, AtitlanTour at Q7.8 (Q8 in its booking form); both say reservation payments are not refundable. Check today’s rate before paying in quetzales.

The public bus: Flor del Paisaje

The Municipality of Panajachel’s tourism site lists Transportes Flor del Paisaje on this route:

What the municipality does not say: the fare, where the bus leaves from in either town, how long it takes, or whether it is direct. We could not find an operator page for Flor del Paisaje, so these gaps stay open. Ask at the departure point the evening before, and see our chicken bus guide for what to expect on board.
