This is a tracker, not a one-time article. Every row below carries the airline, the status, and the source that verified it, checked on 24 August 2026. We update the page whenever a route is announced, launched, suspended or dropped — route journalism goes stale in days, not months.
Two things this page gets right that most published lists do not: Boston is not a nonstop (it routes through Belize City), and Madrid–Guatemala is nonstop in one direction only. Both are explained below.
Nonstop vs direct — the distinction that breaks most flight lists
In airline usage a direct flight can make an intermediate stop under a single flight number. A nonstop flight cannot. Every row on this page is labelled, because collapsing the two is the single biggest factual risk on a route list — and it is exactly what happened with the Boston announcement.
Status key: Operating = flying now · Announced = sold, not yet launched · Seasonal = published date band · Suspended = removed with a reload date · Ended = no longer flown.
Status as of 24 August 2026. The US rows below were checked in a 24 August 2026 verification pass against booking engines with the nonstop filter on a September sample date and on winter dates (United, Delta and JetBlue in their own engines; American via nonstop-filtered schedule data, since aa.com blocks automated checks), not inferred from a route list. That matters more than it sounds: of the sixteen US rows in that booking-engine pass, five are seasonal, so a carrier appearing on this page is not the same as a carrier flying this month. The table carries a seasonal label on every such row and gets a status sweep at each schedule-season change. Seasonal boundaries are bracketed, not exact — United’s Washington and Chicago services start somewhere between 20 September and 31 October, and Frontier’s winter return lands before 22 December.

The San Francisco service is flown as a Guatemala City–San Francisco nonstop segment, but the through-itinerary originates in San Salvador — the DGAC announcement describes it as integrating the San Salvador–Guatemala City–San Francisco itinerary.
Three US corrections that most lists get wrong
Frontier is not flying to Guatemala at all right now. Its entire Guatemala network is winter-seasonal and currently dormant: nonstop-filtered searches on 15, 17, 19 and 20 September 2026 returned no Frontier service to Guatemala City from any city, with Miami and Atlanta reappearing on 22 December 2026. Frontier’s marketing page still lists all five Guatemala cities — but a marketing page shows what an airline sells, not what it flies this month. The launch history is real (Miami 2021, Atlanta 2023, Houston December 2025, Orlando 2026); the current-month availability is not.
United’s Washington–Dulles and Chicago services are winter-only. Both were absent from mid-September searches and present on winter dates. The “four times weekly” figure for Dulles that circulates on airport and aggregator pages is not a United frequency — it bundles United and Avianca together on the same airport pair, so it should not be read as either airline’s schedule.
American does not operate Los Angeles–Guatemala City. That flight is Alaska metal with an American codeshare; nonstop-filtered schedules render the marketing carriers together, which is where “American from LAX” comes from. If you see American listed from Los Angeles, it is a codeshare seat on Alaska’s aircraft.

Iberia is the only carrier linking Guatemala and Europe. Iberojet, World2Fly, Air Europa and Plus Ultra have no Guatemala service — Iberojet’s new Spain–Central America route serves San Salvador, not Guatemala, from 13 September 2026.
INGUAT’s director, Harris Whitbeck, has said the institute is in advanced negotiations with two European airlines. No airline, city or start date has been disclosed, so treat it as an aspiration and not a route.

Boston is a one-stop direct, not a nonstop
This is the correction the page exists for. BermudAir’s Boston–Guatemala City service starts 19 December 2026, twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays with an Embraer E190, running to 1 May 2027 — and it routes through Belize City.
The evidence is layered. INGUAT, Guatemala’s own tourism institute, describes the service as operating con ruta vía Belice. BermudAir’s home-market paper, The Royal Gazette, printed the through-schedule on 3 July 2026 showing a Bermuda departure arriving Belize mid-afternoon before continuing on to Guatemala City. And BermudAir’s own published schedule shows the Boston service making one scheduled stop in Belize City (the Belize–Guatemala segment appears as 2T308 southbound / 2T307 northbound) — which is not how a nonstop operates.
Boston.com and the Boston Globe both wrote that BermudAir was adding twice-weekly nonstop service to Belize and Guatemala City. A single E190 rotation cannot be nonstop to two different countries on the same day, and the published Belize–Guatemala segment times settle it. Boston gets a one-stop direct flight to Guatemala City, not a nonstop.
What ended, and what only looks like it ended
- Spirit Airlines — all Guatemala service, 2 May 2026. Spirit announced an orderly cessation of operations after a US$500 million rescue agreement failed, and Guatemala’s DGAC issued an official notice. Guatemala City lost Fort Lauderdale (548 flights in 2025), Orlando and Houston. Spirit had been 5.6% of La Aurora’s commercial flights in 2025 (1,958 of 34,903) and 5.1% in January–March 2026; Orlando lost roughly 70% of its seat availability. Motty Rodas of the airline association AGLA framed the exit as hitting Fort Lauderdale and Orlando connections hardest — and as a possible opening for other low-cost carriers.
- Frontier Dallas/Fort Worth — last flight 16 Aug 2026. The route had launched only on 20 December 2025, an eight-month life. Frontier’s four remaining Guatemala cities (Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Orlando) are winter-seasonal and dormant as of 24 August 2026 — booking engines show no Frontier nonstop to Guatemala City on mid-September dates, with Miami and Atlanta returning 22 December 2026, plus the Los Angeles holiday block from 17 December.
- Delta Los Angeles — ended in 2025, not 2026. Final southbound 5 May 2025, final northbound 6 May 2025, announced 25 January 2025. Delta’s only Guatemala nonstop is now Atlanta.
- Volaris Costa Rica, San José — ended 12 Apr 2026, dropping two daily A320neo rotations. This is press-level reporting, not a Volaris statement. San José–Guatemala City is now served by Avianca and Copa.
- Wingo Bogotá — suspended from 17 Aug 2026, filed with Colombian authorities on 29 July 2026. Wingo has not stated the reason or whether it is permanent. Medellín is unaffected.
- JetBlue New York–JFK — suspended, not cut. Filings show a closed band of 21 May 2026 to 30 January 2027 with schedules reloading afterwards, and JetBlue has made no statement. JetBlue still flies Fort Lauderdale. The JFK nonstop operating today belongs to Avianca — a different airline on the same airport pair.
- American Chicago–O’Hare — seasonal, and not flying right now. It ran 6 November 2025 to 6 April 2026. A winter 2026/27 return is unconfirmed.
Two more that are commonly reported wrong: Air Canada did not drop Montréal — it upgraded it to year-round and is adding Toronto; the dropped route was Montréal–Guadalajara, in Mexico. And Iberia did not discontinue Madrid; the 2026 Iberia suspension news concerns Havana.
The honest 2026 picture: churn, not a boom
Count the losses against the additions and the story changes. Since late 2025 Guatemala City has gained Wingo Bogotá (since suspended), Frontier Houston and Frontier Orlando (both seasonal, and dormant as of this update), Wingo Medellín, TAG San Salvador, seasonal Avianca San Francisco and the Montréal year-round conversion. Against that it has lost Spirit entirely, Delta Los Angeles, Volaris Costa Rica San José, Frontier Dallas/Fort Worth, JetBlue JFK to suspension and Wingo Bogotá — with American Chicago sitting out as winter-only. Four of those six losses landed in the last four months, and two in the last two weeks before this update.
The demand data points the same way. INGUAT recorded 3,361,843 non-resident visitors in 2025, up 11% on 2024. For January–July 2026, arrivals were 1,915,874 — up just 1.2% year on year, and Guatemalan reporting attributes the slowdown explicitly to reduced air capacity, higher airline operating costs and more expensive tickets. INGUAT still projects 3.6 million for full-year 2026. Most of the announced additions are also winter-seasonal, which is a weaker form of connectivity than what was lost.
None of that makes Guatemala hard to reach — Panama City remains La Aurora’s busiest link and Houston, Miami and Los Angeles all have multiple daily options. It does mean a list that only stacks new-route announcements is telling you half the story.
How we maintain this page
Every row carries a status and a source. A row older than about 90 days gets re-verified before the next update. We watch the IATA schedule-season changes in late March and late October, schedule filings tagged Guatemala, INGUAT and DGAC announcements, and airline newsrooms — and we update this page whenever a route is announced, launched, suspended or dropped.
Two standing limits worth stating plainly:
- Route existence is verified; weekly frequency mostly is not. A booking-engine pass on 24 August 2026 confirmed which US routes actually operate and on which dates — that part is solid. What those engines do not give is a weekly frequency, so this page prints a number only for United Houston (24 weekly per schedule filing, 2+ daily observed) and Alaska Los Angeles (daily). Everywhere else the cell reads “not published” or reports only what was observed on the sampled dates. That is deliberate: we would rather leave a cell empty than print an aggregator number as an airline fact. Seasonal start dates are bracketed the same way — we know United’s Dulles and O’Hare services begin between 20 September and 31 October, and we do not know the exact day.
- We never publish fares. Prices move daily and belong in a booking engine, not a tracker.
For fare research, airport guides and the wider picture on getting here, see our flights hub. Once you land, the airport transfer options and the La Aurora to Antigua run are the two pages most travellers need next, and everything else is in the transport section.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a nonstop flight from Boston to Guatemala City?
No. BermudAir starts Boston–Guatemala City service on 19 December 2026, twice weekly (Wednesday and Saturday) on an Embraer E190 through 1 May 2027 — but it routes via Belize City. INGUAT describes the service as operating con ruta vía Belice, and the published schedule shows one scheduled stop in Belize City on the through-flight. Several US outlets called it nonstop; the published segment times show it is not.
Are there direct flights from Canada to Guatemala?
Yes, and there are now two. Air Canada flies Montréal–Trudeau (YUL) to Guatemala City nonstop year-round — 4 flights a week November to April and 3 a week May to October, on a Boeing 787-8 as AC1369, confirmed by the Embassy of Guatemala in Canada on 29 July 2026. Air Canada also adds Toronto–Pearson (YYZ) from 1 December 2026, once weekly on an Airbus A330-300. There is no WestJet or Air Transat nonstop to Guatemala City.
Which US airlines fly nonstop to Guatemala City?
As of 24 August 2026, the ones flying right now are United from Houston, Newark and Los Angeles (all year-round), American from Miami and Dallas/Fort Worth, Delta from Atlanta, Alaska from Los Angeles (daily) and JetBlue from Fort Lauderdale. Winter-only, and not operating this month: United from Washington–Dulles and Chicago–O’Hare, American from Chicago–O’Hare, and every Frontier route — Atlanta, Miami, Houston and Orlando are seasonal and currently dormant, with Miami and Atlanta returning on 22 December 2026. Avianca also serves several US cities including New York–JFK, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Exact weekly frequencies are not published by most of these carriers, so this page states a number only for United Houston and Alaska Los Angeles.
Does Spirit Airlines still fly to Guatemala?
No. Spirit ceased all operations on 2 May 2026, confirmed by an official DGAC notice in Guatemala. Guatemala City lost three Spirit routes with it — Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Houston. Spirit had been 5.6% of La Aurora’s commercial flights in 2025, and Orlando lost roughly 70% of its seat availability.
Is JetBlue still flying to Guatemala City?
JetBlue’s New York–JFK nonstop is suspended, not cancelled outright. Schedule filings show it removed for 21 May 2026 through 30 January 2027, with schedules reloading after that date, and JetBlue has issued no statement either way. JetBlue continues to fly Fort Lauderdale–Guatemala City, and the JFK nonstop that does operate today is Avianca’s.
Is there a nonstop flight from Europe to Guatemala?
Only one, and only in one direction. Iberia flies Madrid to Guatemala City nonstop daily on an Airbus A330-200 as IB221. The return, IB222, is not nonstop — it operates Guatemala City to San Salvador, then San Salvador to Madrid, under the same flight number. Iberia is the sole carrier linking Guatemala and Europe.
Did Delta stop flying Los Angeles to Guatemala?
Yes, and it happened in 2025. Delta’s final LAX–Guatemala City southbound flight was 5 May 2025 and the final northbound 6 May 2025, announced 25 January 2025. Delta still serves Guatemala City from Atlanta — that is now its only Guatemala nonstop.
Are there international nonstop flights to Flores (Mundo Maya)?
Not currently. Two independent schedule instruments checked on 24 August 2026 return Guatemala City as the only scheduled nonstop destination from Flores (FRS), flown by TAG Airlines. The previously announced TAG Flores–Cancún service does not appear in current Cancún schedules, even though TAG’s own website still lists Cancún in its destination menu — an airline’s destination menu is marketing, not a schedule.
