La Aurora International Airport (IATA: GUA) is in Zona 13 of Guatemala City — SAT’s customs-office directory lists its airport customs post at Aeropuerto Internacional La Aurora, zona 13 (read 20 September 2026). Here is what each way out of the airport actually publishes about price and timing.

Corrected 7 October 2026: earlier versions of this page gave Uber fares by zone (for example Q25-40 to Zona 10), driver wait times, a SIM price, the location of the Uber pickup area, ATMs and wifi in the terminal, and a public-bus option. None of those had a published source and they have been removed or replaced with what Uber, Claro, Tigo and the UK Foreign Office publish.

*Uber publishes no fixed fare for any route. Its La Aurora page says the cost depends on the type of ride you request, the estimated length and duration of the trip, tolls, city fees and current demand, and the app shows the price before you request (read 2 September 2026). **Antigua is not on Uber’s own list of the Guatemalan cities it serves. ***Uber’s list of its Guatemala cities names four: Escuintla, Guastatoya, Guatemala City and Quetzaltenango (read 2 September 2026). Panajachel, Sololá and the lake villages are not on it. Use a shared or private shuttle for that run — see Guatemala airport to Lake Atitlán.

Official taxi: we found no authorised airport-taxi tariff for La Aurora published online. On 2 September 2026 INGUAT’s website blocked our requests (its archived copies carry no taxi page) and the DGAC site returned no readable content, so agree the price before you get in the car.

Shuttle fares are the operators’ own published prices, read 2 September 2026. Airport→Antigua: USD 15 (Adrenalina Tours), USD 17 (AtitlanTour), USD 18 (Guatemala Transportation). Airport→Panajachel: USD 32 (AtitlanTour), USD 35 (Atitrans and Guatemala Transportation), USD 40 (Adrenalina Tours). Quetzal equivalents use the Banco de Guatemala reference rate of Q7.62479 per USD (1 September 2026); operators apply their own internal rates (AtitlanTour Q7.8, Guatemala Transportation Q8), so paying cash in quetzales costs more.

Shuttle departures to Antigua (same reading): AtitlanTour lists 05:30, 10:30, 14:30 and 16:30; Guatemala Transportation lists the same four times, with a minimum of 3 passengers on the 16:30 run. Adrenalina Tours asks for collective shuttles to be booked 48 hours in advance and warns that if an international flight is delayed you lose your seat on a collective shuttle without a refund.

Step-by-Step: Arriving at La Aurora

After Immigration and Customs

  1. Collect your luggage from the carousel in the arrivals area.
  2. Sort out data if you need it. Claro publishes its prepaid SIM at Q5.00 plus a Q10.00 initial recharge to activate it; Tigo publishes its eSIM at Q50 and does not publish a physical-chip price (both read 21 September 2026). We could not confirm which carriers have kiosks in the arrivals hall. More on carriers in our SIM cards guide.
  3. Choose your transport — Uber, a taxi or the shuttle you booked.

Uber

Uber’s GUA page lets you see a price estimate before you request and says the service is available 24/7. It does not publish the location of the pickup point at La Aurora, so follow the app’s instructions. Its one safety rule for GUA: do not accept trips from solicitors offering Uber rides outside of the app, and check the driver and vehicle details before you get in.

Airport Taxi

We found no authorised airport-taxi tariff from INGUAT or the DGAC, so agree the fare before you set off. The UK Foreign Office’s Guatemala safety page (read 24 September 2026) says pre-paid taxi vouchers can be bought from the office of INGUAT, Guatemala’s tourist agency, in the airport’s arrivals terminal, and names radio-dispatched taxis, Uber or hotel taxis as the safest options for short trips within cities.

Late Night Arrivals

Uber says it is available 24/7; for rides to the airport on early or late flights its GUA page warns of possibly longer driver arrival times and suggests reserving ahead. No shuttle operator we checked publishes an evening departure from the airport to Lake Atitlán — the latest published runs leave at 13:30-14:00 (see the Lake Atitlán route).

Pre-booked transfers: if you arrive very late, a private transfer booked through your hotel or a tour company means a driver is expecting you.

Tips

  • Do not accept rides from people who approach you. Uber’s own GUA page warns against solicitors offering rides outside the app; the UK Foreign Office lists the airport among the places to stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Express kidnappings: the UK Foreign Office says many cases involve victims picked up by taxis hailed from the street — use Uber, a radio-dispatched or hotel taxi, or the INGUAT voucher instead.
  • Returning to the airport: Uber’s GUA page recommends getting to the airport 3 hours early for international travel. From Antigua, Atitrans publishes 1.5 hours for its shuttle to Guatemala City; our Antigua to the airport page has both operators’ departure times.
