Antigua to Rio Dulce: Shuttles, Times & Fares [2026]

There is no public bus from Antigua to Río Dulce, but three shuttle operators sell tickets through to it, and every one of them leaves early: the only through shuttles are the 04:00 departures of Adrenalina and AtitlanTour, and the latest published departure of the day is 11:00. This page sets the three operators side by side as they published them on 24 September 2026, then prices the do-it-yourself route through Guatemala City on Litegua.

The shuttles, side by side

What the 04:00 departures mean in practice. On Adrenalina’s published 7 hours, a 04:00 pickup is an arrival around 11:00, which leaves the afternoon for the boat to Livingston — check the last departures on our Livingston boat guide before you count on it. Adrenalina also warns that there are no stops on the road until Río Dulce, so bring food. It picks up at your hotel or address, and it asks for bookings 48 hours ahead.

The 07:00 and later options go through the capital on a bus. AtitlanTour says its 07:00 changes to a Pullman bus. Guatemala Transportation names all four of its departures “Antigua to Guatemala – Rio Dulce” without saying whether you change vehicles in the capital. Neither publishes which bus company carries the second leg or where the change happens.

Paying. Guatemala Transportation and AtitlanTour both quote in dollars and both say reservation payments are not refundable. They also set their own exchange rates: Q8 per dollar at Guatemala Transportation and Q7.8 at AtitlanTour (Q8 in its booking form). Paying in dollars avoids that spread; check today’s quetzal rate before paying in quetzales.

The DIY route: capital plus Litegua

If you are already heading to Guatemala City, or want a bus with a seat you choose, the route is two legs:

1. Antigua to Guatemala City. Shuttles run many times a day; our Antigua to Guatemala City guide has the times and fares. Guatemala Transportation’s Antigua shuttles cover zones 9, 10 and 13 and the airport; Adrenalina’s also drops at the Fuente del Norte bus station in zona 1. Either way, plan a taxi or Uber on to the Litegua terminal (address on our capital-to-Río Dulce guide, linked below).
2. Litegua, Guatemala City to Río Dulce. Litegua’s own booking system listed six Primera Plus departures — 05:30, 07:30, 09:00, 11:30, 13:00 and 16:00 — each at Q120-145, for travel on both 25 September and 6 October 2026. The 09:00, 11:30 and 13:00 buses continue past Río Dulce to Cadenas.

The fare went up this month. When we read the same system on 12 September 2026 it quoted Q100-125 on this route. On 24 September every Litegua route from the capital that returned departures showed Q120-145 for Primera Plus. Budget on the new figure.

Is DIY actually cheaper? Only a little, and it costs time. The cheapest direct shuttle is USD$35. The DIY route is a shuttle or bus into the capital, a cross-city taxi, and Q120-145 on Litegua. It makes sense when you want a later start than 04:00 without paying Guatemala Transportation’s USD$50, or when you will already be in the city.

Coming back: Río Dulce to Antigua

Adrenalina’s listing names Cafe Colifato as the pickup but also asks you to be at Backpackers place in Río Dulce at least 30 minutes early; confirm which when you book.
