The line with a published timetable from the capital to Huehuetenango is Transportes Los Halcones: seven departures on weekdays, a published 6-hour trip, and a Gold class advertised from Q145. If you are starting in Antigua or at Lake Atitlán instead, three tourist-shuttle sellers run a weekday dawn shuttle straight to Huehuetenango. Los Halcones headlines “7 Salidas diarias” and a 6-hour journey in both directions. It does not publish a separate weekend timetable beyond the special runs above, so check the date in its ticket system before you plan a Saturday or Sunday trip.

What the Gold class includes

The operator’s website lists its Gold service from Q145 per person, with reclining seats, air conditioning, travel insurance, 30 lb of luggage, entertainment and an onboard toilet. It describes a 48-seat fleet renewed in 2024. Tickets are sold online, or by bank transfer or deposit after a reservation.

Rules worth knowing before you buy

From the Los Halcones FAQ:

  • Boarding is only at its offices. You can get off at authorised points on the way if you say so when you board.
  • Arrive early, but not too early. The home page says check in 30 minutes before departure. The FAQ answers no to waiting in the Guatemala City office before an early-morning bus: you must enter one hour before departure, so you cannot wait overnight in the capital office (it matters for the 02:00 bus). Use the hour.
  • Waiting overnight in Huehuetenango: you may wait in the Huehuetenango office if you enter before 22:00.
  • Luggage: 30 lb per ticket. Excess is paid in cash at the office. Backpacks go in the hold, including one with a laptop; a baby’s bag counts as your hand luggage.
  • No pets, and no firearms even with a licence.
  • No refunds for a missed bus, illness or a roadblock. With 12 hours’ notice you can move the ticket once to a new date within 30 days.
  • Roadblocks and landslides: the bus waits en route until it can continue. If a protest is announced in advance, staff call you with the new departure time.
  • Parking: Q50 per car and Q25 per motorbike per 24 hours at the Guatemala City office; Q30 and Q15 in Huehuetenango.

Where it leaves from in the capital. The operator’s site gives only its Huehuetenango office: 10 Avenida 9-12, zona 1, open 06:00-22:00 every day (+502 7765-7985 or +502 5466-5836). A guatemala.com report from June 2025 says the capital departures leave from Calzada Roosevelt; we could not read an address on the operator’s own pages, so ask for it when you book.

Coming back: Guatemala Transportation lists Huehuetenango to Antigua at 13:00, USD$65, Monday to Friday. Adrenalina’s Huehuetenango page (last updated March 2024) lists Huehuetenango to Antigua at 14:00 but shows two prices for it, USD 40 in the details and USD 50 on the booking button, and its Huehuetenango to Guatemala City product (via Antigua, 7 hours, USD 45) was marked out of stock.

Guatemala Transportation quotes its dollars at Q8, AtitlanTour at Q7.8 (Q8 elsewhere on the same page). Check today’s quetzal rate before paying in quetzales.
