The only through bus from Guatemala City to Tegucigalpa runs through El Salvador, not across the Guatemala-Honduras line. Of the operators whose sites we could read on 3 October 2026, exactly one sells the trip as a single ticket. Everything else is two tickets and a connection, in San Salvador or San Pedro Sula, or a flight.
Quick summary
- One through bus: Pullmantur, 06:00 daily from the Holiday Inn, zona 10, to the Clarion Hotel Real in Tegucigalpa, via San Salvador.
- Its fares (USD, taxes included, meals on board): Turista Superior USD 65 promotional / USD 81 normal; Primera Clase USD 120 / USD 144.
- Tica Bus, two tickets: Guatemala to San Salvador 05:30 (USD 35) + San Salvador to Tegucigalpa 12:00 (USD 35), a 30-minute scheduled connection.
- Through San Pedro Sula instead: possible, but it means an overnight bus to San Pedro Sula and a second ticket from there; see below.
- Fly: TAG Airlines lists Tegucigalpa as a destination; its home page shows no Tegucigalpa fare and no flight time.
- Not read: Hedman Alas’s site did not load on 3 October 2026; we quote nothing from it.
Pullmantur: the through ticket
Pullmantur is the only operator we found selling Guatemala to Tegucigalpa as one ticket. Its own itinerary and fare tables, read on 3 October 2026:
| Turista Superior | Primera Clase | |
|---|---|---|
| One way, promotional | USD 65 | USD 120 |
| One way, normal | USD 81 | USD 144 |
| Round trip, promotional | USD 130 | USD 240 |
| Round trip, normal | USD 154 | USD 286 |
| Child under 12, one way (promo / normal) | USD 60 / USD 81 | — |
| Departs Guatemala | 06:00, Monday to Sunday | 06:00, Monday to Sunday |
| Departs Tegucigalpa | 05:15, Monday to Sunday | 05:15, Monday to Sunday |
- Boarding: Hotel Holiday Inn, 1a Avenida 13-22, zona 10 (Guatemala City office (502) 2495-7000). Arrival: Clarion Hotel Real Tegucigalpa, Boulevard Juan Pablo Segundo.
- Route: Pullmantur’s fare table states “Esta ruta es via San Salvador, El Salvador.”
- Time: no end-to-end time is published for this pair. By segment, Pullmantur gives about 4 hours 45 minutes between Guatemala and San Salvador and about 6 hours 45 minutes between San Salvador and Tegucigalpa. On the way back it leaves Tegucigalpa at 05:15 to reach the border without traffic, adding that otherwise the delay is very long.
- Promotional fares: the Tegucigalpa-origin fare tables say the purchase must be made at least 24 hours before departure, and that senior discounts apply to normal fares, not to the promotional ones.
- Baggage: one 50 lb suitcase in the hold at no extra cost, plus a small carry-on bag or backpack.
- Upgrade from Turista Superior to Primera Clase: USD 55 promotional / USD 63 normal.
Pullmantur’s San Salvador leg is covered in detail on Pullmantur Guatemala to El Salvador.
Tica Bus: two tickets and a tight connection
Tica Bus prints no Guatemala to Honduras row; you buy two legs. Its timetable on 3 October 2026 (fares are for online purchase only, it says):
| Leg | Departs | Scheduled arrival | Fare | Days | Border |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Guatemala → San Salvador (Diamante) | 05:30 | 11:30 | USD 35 | Daily | Valle Nuevo y Las Chinamas |
| Guatemala → San Salvador | 06:30 | 12:30 | USD 20 | Daily | Valle Nuevo y Las Chinamas |
| San Salvador → Tegucigalpa (Diamante) | 12:00 | 21:00 | USD 35 | Daily | El Amatillo |
So the same-day combination is 05:30 + 12:00 = USD 70, with 30 minutes between the scheduled arrival and the onward departure. Tica Bus adds that arrival times are approximate and vary with time at the border and road traffic. The cheaper 06:30 bus is scheduled into San Salvador at 12:30, after the Tegucigalpa bus has left, so the USD 55 combination (USD 20 + USD 35) means a night in San Salvador. Terminals and the full network are on Tica Bus from Guatemala; the Guatemala-El Salvador crossing is on Valle Nuevo / Las Chinamas.
Coming back with Tica Bus: Tegucigalpa to San Salvador at 05:30 (scheduled 13:30, USD 35), then San Salvador to Guatemala at 14:00 (USD 35) or 17:00 (USD 20).
Through San Pedro Sula instead
The other overland shape stays in Guatemala and Honduras and skips El Salvador:
- Guatemala City to San Pedro Sula on the Pullman that crosses at Corinto: Guatemala Transportation lists 05:30 and 23:00 at USD 60, 10-11 hours; AtitlanTour lists the same two times at USD 55, 10 hours.
- San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa with Pullmantur: 06:30 and 15:30 daily from Centro Comercial Ágora (beside the Hyatt Place), about 3 hours 30 minutes, from USD 22 (Económica, promotional) to USD 40 (Primera Clase, normal).
The agencies do not say where in San Pedro Sula their Pullman stops, so the walk or taxi to Pullmantur’s Ágora terminal is yours to arrange. Every option for the first leg is on Guatemala City to San Pedro Sula.
Flying
TAG Airlines lists Tegucigalpa under Honduras in its destination menu. Its Destinos populares panel on 3 October 2026 priced Belize, Roatán and San Pedro Sula but showed no Tegucigalpa fare, and its Tegucigalpa page is travel copy without a schedule, flight time or airport name. Search the fare on TAG’s booking engine for your dates. Leaving Guatemala by air, the INGUAT law (Decreto 1701, Art. 21 c) sets an exit tax equal in quetzales to US$30; by land, travellers are exempt.
Before you go
- Your days in Guatemala: what leaving through El Salvador or Honduras does to your Guatemalan stay is explained in the CA-4 border run guide.
- Children and Honduras: Tica Bus states that children between 12 months and 10 years old, of any nationality, must show a vaccination card with the measles dose to enter Honduras, citing the Honduran authorities.
- Night arrival: Tica Bus’s 12:00 from San Salvador is scheduled into Tegucigalpa at 21:00; plan your transfer from the terminal before you leave.
Fares and schedules read on each operator’s own site on 3 October 2026: Pullmantur’s itinerary and price pages, Tica Bus’s routes table, Guatemala Transportation’s and AtitlanTour’s schedules, and TAG Airlines’ home page. Hedman Alas’s site returned connection errors that day and is not quoted. Exit tax from the INGUAT organic law, Decreto 1701, Art. 21 c.
