Applying for a Public Teaching Post in Guatemala (MINEDUC) 2026: Oposición Requirements Under AM 1685-2024

Quick summary: as of 29 September 2026 no teacher call (convocatoria) is open at MINEDUC. The most recent were 32 (pre-primary), 33 (primary) and 34 (arts education), under Acuerdo Ministerial 3030-2025 (1 August 2025), whose cycle ran to March 2026. Call 35 (AM 3442-2026) is for school supervisors, not teachers. The general requirements to compete are published: they are set by Acuerdo Ministerial 1685-2024, and each call adds its own acuerdo (for calls 32-34 it was AM 3030-2025). The five general ones are: being catalogued with the Junta Calificadora de Personal with a registered title, an e-SINO account, the e-SINO forms, a DPI photocopy and the RENAS certificate.

Status of calls (29 September 2026)

The MINEDUC calls page says: «Por el momento no hay convocatorias abiertas disponibles» (no calls are open at the moment). We do not know when the next teacher call will open; MINEDUC has not published it.

General requirements (AM 1685-2024, Art. 18)

Art. 18 says anyone taking part in an oposición must meet these mandatory general requirements:

1. Be catalogued and up to date with the Junta Calificadora de Personal, with a title registered for the level you apply to. For secondary education (Educación Media), the title must match the area or sub-area under MINEDUC’s manual of academic requirements and the national curriculum (CNB).
2. Have a username and password in e-SINO.
3. Fill in and submit the post-application and document-receipt forms, addressed to the appointing authority, in the official format generated by e-SINO.
4. A legible two-sided photocopy of your current DPI. If exceptionally you do not have one, a RENAP DPI-in-process certificate is accepted (see DPI).
5. An original, current certificate showing you are not listed in the Registro Nacional de Agresores Sexuales (RENAS).

What goes on paper: per the same article, items a) to c) need no documentary proof; the DPI and the RENAS certificate are handed to the Jurado Municipal de Oposición on the dates set.

Art. 18 asks for a registered title but does not say registered with whom. Separately from the oposición, registering titles with the Comptroller (CGC) is mandatory for every title holder: see CGC degree registration.

Specific requirements (AM 1685-2024, Art. 19)

On top of the general ones, each modality or action has its own:

Rules of the latest call (AM 3030-2025)

• Incomplete file = out. Art. 3 says a file missing any requirement from Arts. 18 and 19 of AM 1685-2024 is not scored and is declared out of the call.
• Certified photocopies. Every photocopy, DPI included, is checked against the original by whoever acts as education supervisor or by staff designated by the Departmental Director of Education, with a stamp on every page. The certification may be no more than six months old when you hand the file to the Jurado Municipal (Art. 4). The same article says: «El trámite es eminentemente gratuito» (the procedure is entirely free).
• One file only. You file one application, in one municipality nationwide and for one call (Art. 7).
• Diagnostic test. Anyone applying for first entry or re-entry must have a current diagnostic test for the level (Art. 8).
• Actions. Calls 32 and 33 allowed first entry, re-entry and transfer; call 34 also allowed completing teaching periods (completación de partidas) (Art. 2).
• Title. According to MINEDUC, call 32 required a pre-primary title, 33 a primary title and 34 an arts-education title.

How the 2025 cycle ran (AM 3030-2025 timetable)

Use it as a reference for how a call is sequenced; the MINEDUC calls page we checked on 29 September 2026 shows no dates for the next one.

The timetable header numbers the calls the other way round (32 primary, 33 pre-primary); Acuerdo 3030-2025 and MINEDUC say 32 is pre-primary and 33 primary, and this page follows the Acuerdo.

MINEDUC said these calls were to fill more than 12,000 vacant posts nationwide.

How files are scored

Art. 32 of AM 1685-2024 awards points on several criteria. Two examples: length of service, 0 to 25 points, and residence, 0 to 20 points, which looks at where the teacher lives with their family relative to the municipality applied to.

Step by step (per the rules and the 2025 cycle)

1. Make sure you are catalogued and up to date with the Junta Calificadora de Personal, with the title the level requires.
2. Create your username and password in e-SINO.
3. When a teacher call is published, check the official list of posts in e-SINO.
4. Register and apply in e-SINO within the dates; fill in and submit the forms.
5. Get your photocopies certified (no more than six months before handing them in) and obtain the RENAS certificate.
6. Hand in the file at the office of the Jurado Municipal de Oposición for your municipality.
7. Wait for scoring, results and the school-assignment hearing.
