Guatemalan High-School Título (MINEDUC Diploma) 2026: Get, Replace, Validate & Apostille from Abroad

A Guatemalan nivel-medio título / diploma (diversificado cycle: bachillerato, perito, magisterio, secretariado, and similar) is the State document certifying that you completed high school. And there is one fact that surprises almost everyone: the first printing of your título is NOT something you request — your school files it. What the graduate does handle, often years later, is the replacement (if it’s lost, stolen, damaged, or the name is wrong) and online validation. The service is free, Q0 (official catalog tramites.gob.gt/servicio/1354).

Quick summary: The diversificado título is issued by the Departmental Education Directorate (DIDEDUC) of your jurisdiction, not central MINEDUC (National Education Law, Decree 12-91, Art. 77). Cost Q0. The first printing is filed by your school principal, batched by graduating class. Replacement is filed by you, online, at bpm.mineduc.gob.gt with form ATD-FOR-06. There is no downloadable PDF título — it is a physical document with a digitized electronic signature. You can validate a título and track its printing on MINEDUC’s official portals.

Applies to: recent graduates awaiting their título, people who lost or damaged a título, misspelled-name cases, graduates of schools that have since closed, employers and universities verifying a título, and diaspora who need their diversificado título for procedures abroad.

Nivel-medio título vs. university degree (the #1 confusion)

First, place your case — these are different tracks:

How a new graduate gets their título

The first printing of titles and diplomas is filed by the school principal (or the Extraescolar Education Coordinator) at the DIDEDUC’s Accreditation and Certification Unit, and it is processed in a batch por promocion — the whole graduating class together, not person by person (official ATD-INS-01 instructivo). So if you have just graduated, the correct path is your school, not a MINEDUC counter.

The finished título is a physical document carrying:

Cost: Q0. The título is a State document with full legal validity (Constitution Art. 81); there is no lawful quetzal fee to print it.

A note on timing: the official catalog mentions a “temporalidad por titulo o diploma impreso” of 4.79 minutes, but that is an internal MINEDUC per-document processing metric, NOT the turnaround you wait for your título. The real timeframe depends on when your school assembles and files your class batch and on your DIDEDUC’s pace. There is no “your título in 5 minutes.”

Track your título’s printing status

MINEDUC has a tracking portal to check where your título is in the printing process:

If the portal shows nothing for your título, most likely your school has not yet filed your class batch: check directly with your school’s administration.

Validate a título (for employers, universities and diaspora)

The validation portal confirms whether a título is genuine — it is what employers and universities use to confirm a título is real, and it is the ideal pre-check before sending a document abroad.

Validation portal: mineduc.gob.gt/med_val/WbfrmValidacion.aspx (has a CAPTCHA). It validates titles/diplomas issued from 2005 onward, searching by one of these three keys:

Lost, stolen, damaged or wrong-name título → Replacement

Unlike the first printing, the replacement (reposición) IS filed by the graduate, and it is online. You file it on MINEDUC’s BPM portal — bpm.mineduc.gob.gt — with form ATD-FOR-06 (“Solicitud de reposición de títulos y diplomas”), uploading documents as PDF (official ATD-INS-02 instructivo).

Key replacement details (official DIGEACE page + ATD-INS-02):

• Any month of the year. Replacements are handled in any month at each DIDEDUC.
• Authorized third party. Someone else can file it with an authorization document, registering as a representative; email notifications go to the registered account.
• No married surname. On replacements the married surname (apellido de casada) is not recorded.
• Dual titles. For dual-title careers, you file one replacement request per credit.

My name is wrong on the título

This is a common case, resolved as a replacement for name correction or name change. The decisive document is the RENAP birth certificate of the person named on the título — the name on the título must match the civil registry. Remember: the married surname is not recorded.

My school has closed (clausurado)

A closed school does not block your título. The DIDEDUC of the jurisdiction handles the títulos of closed schools: it temporarily re-enables the establishment or creates the code needed to process the printing (Ministerial Agreement 2323-2013, Art. 9; AG 670-97, Art. 17). Principals are, by law, custodians of the academic files of their graduates (AG 670-97, Art. 13).

MINEDUC has no record of my título

For older or pre-system titles, the DIDEDUC searches its physical registration books and digital archives. If it finds you there, it recreates the registry from the cuadro MED of the graduation year. If you are not registered but you hold a validation document, a new registry is created (ATD-INS-02, activity 2).

Using your diversificado título from abroad (diaspora)

If you live outside Guatemala and need your diversificado título for a procedure abroad (university, employment, naturalization):

1. Validate first that the título is genuine on the validation portal — this is the pre-check before apostilling.
2. If you need to replace the document, do it online at bpm.mineduc.gob.gt (ATD-FOR-06); a trusted family member can handle it as a registered representative.

There is no downloadable “e-título”: even though the título carries an electronic signature, it remains a physical document. For remote procedures, the route is validate online + replace (if needed) + apostille.
