Guatemala in June [2027]: Rain Returns, the Army Day Rule Points to Monday 28 June, Hurricane Season Opens

June 2027 falls in Guatemala’s rainy season, which INSIVUMEH dates from May to October, and is one of its two wettest months: in our 1996-2025 reanalysis series it brings 18-20% of the year’s rain to Antigua, Guatemala City and Lake Atitlán. The calendar has two fixed dates, Father’s Day on Thursday 17 June and Army Day on 30 June, whose paid holiday points to Monday 28 June under the Monday-shift rule. Both hurricane basins are open by 1 June, and the June 2025 visitor count put the month ninth of twelve.

How wet is June? By destination

INSIVUMEH sets out two seasons in its 2018 climate study, the rainy season (mayo a octubre) and the dry season (noviembre a abril), and notes that June usually brings cloudy, rainy days. The table uses the June values from our parent guide’s 1996-2025 Open-Meteo ERA5 reanalysis series: average high/low in °C with °F in brackets, and June’s share of the year’s rain. These are historical model averages, not a forecast.

The rain column is a share of each place’s annual total, not a daily chance of rain; the parent guide’s temperature table does not cover Guatemala City or Semuc Champey. Two points stand out. June ties with September as the wettest month for Antigua (19%), and the share drops to 10-11% in July across the highlands, which is the canícula covered on the July page. On the Caribbean side and in the Verapaz, rain is spread across the whole year, so June is less of a jump there. June 2027 dates

Father’s Day. AGN, the Agencia Guatemalteca de Noticias, notes that Guatemala set 17 June as the date to mark the Día del Padre. Article 127 of the Labour Code does not list it among paid holidays; the Father’s Day holiday page covers what employers may decide.

Army Day and the Monday rule. Article 127 lists 30 June among the paid holidays for private-sector workers. Decreto 19-2018, passed “Con el objeto de promover el turismo nacional”, moves covered holidays that fall on a Tuesday or Wednesday to the Monday before, and 30 June is one of the dates it names. In 2027 30 June is a Wednesday, so the rule points to Monday 28 June, giving a Saturday 26 to Monday 28 June long weekend. The 2026 edition shows how the rule plays out. With 30 June on a Tuesday, AGN reported the paid holiday moved to Monday 29 June 2026. La Hora reported that the banking sector authorised closing regular operations on Friday 26 June (Bank Employee Day) and Monday 29 June, with a reduced set of branches open. The Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración announced that its central offices, passport issuing centres and regional offices would close on 29 and 30 June 2026 under its collective agreement. If you need a passport appointment or bank counter in late June 2027, plan around that weekend and check the agency’s own notice.

Corpus Christi is not in June this year. With Easter on 28 March 2027, the US bishops’ 2027 calendar places the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ on Sunday 30 May.

Storm season starts

The US National Hurricane Center’s season dates: the eastern Pacific runs 15 May to 30 November and the Atlantic 1 June to 30 November. For 1991-2020, NHC gives an average eastern Pacific season of 15 named storms, 8 hurricanes and 4 major hurricanes, with the first named storm, on those averages, forming in early to mid-June; the Atlantic average is 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 major hurricanes. Crowds

INGUAT counted 257,496 non-resident visitors in June 2025, ninth of the twelve months that year. That is a 2025 count, not a 2027 forecast.
