Guatemala Border Wait Times: What Is Actually Published

As of 20 September 2026. The search that brings most people here is for a number of minutes at a Guatemalan border. That number is not published by anybody, and this page will not invent it. What follows is what the agencies genuinely publish — hours, services, documents, the volume record — and how to use it to pick a crossing.

The honest answer first

We checked both authorities at source on 20 September 2026:

So a page promising live Guatemalan border waits is either reporting somebody’s guess or reporting a crowd-sourced app. The closest thing to a live human source that any Guatemalan institution publishes is INGUAT’s assistance line — 1500 inside Guatemala, +502 1500 from abroad — which INGUAT staffed around the clock for the 2026 Semana Santa season.

The hours that decide your day

These are SAT’s own words, in Spanish, read by our collector on the date stamped under the table. Read the operative line for whether the post is working, and the tourist line where there is one — they are not the same window.

Three things in that table change a plan:

1. Pedro de Alvarado’s operative area runs 24 hours; its administrative area does not run at weekends at all. If your crossing needs a desk rather than a lane — a vehicle permit query, a document problem — a Saturday arrival is the wrong arrival.
2. El Florido’s tourist window is three hours longer than its cargo window. 18:00 is the goods deadline; 21:00 is yours.
3. Tecún Umán is two posts, not one. SAT lists Tecún Umán I as Paso de Turistas y Declaraciones Menores and Tecún Umán II, the Puerto Fronterizo Ingeniero Juan Luis Lizarralde Arrillaga, as the freight post that also handles Permisos de Turista. IGM likewise operates two delegations there. Arriving at the wrong one is the commonest way to lose an hour at this border.

Who is standing at each window

Guatemala publishes no staffing roster, so this is assembled from what each agency says it does at each post, not from an org chart.

The structural fact nobody explains to visitors: three Guatemalan posts are aduanas integradas whose SAT-published address is inside the neighbouring country — El Florido and Agua Caliente (Honduras) and Corinto (Honduras). That is why which side do I clear first has a different answer at El Florido than at Tecún Umán, and why an integrated post can change its hours by a binational decision rather than a Guatemalan one.

When the crush actually happens

There is no by-hour data. There is a good, official, retrospective record, and it says the same thing every year: the peak is a holiday, not a weekday.

A caution on that last bulletin: its arithmetic contradicts itself — it gives an entry figure, an exit figure, and then restates the exit figure as the total. We use only its ranking.

For 2026 INGUAT projected around 150,000 international visitors for the season, roughly 80,000 of them Salvadoran. The single most useful inference from all of this: the Salvadoran border is the one that saturates, and it saturates on the long Easter weekend, in both directions.

The rule that beats the hours: holidays extend them

Published hours are a floor, not a ceiling. For Semana Santa 2026 the Puesto Fronterizo Integrado de El Florido ran a special 24-hour schedule, against its ordinary 06:00–18:00 — and note the corroboration, because La Hora’s normally 6:00 a. m. hasta las 6:00 p. m. matches SAT’s published operative window for the same post exactly. IGM did the same thing institutionally in 2025, opening control points around the clock under its contingency plan.

So the thing to look for before a holiday crossing is a notice, not a feed. Our register of those notices is below, and it is appended to rather than rewritten.

The dated register

Every row carries its source and the date we read it. No row carries a wait in minutes, because no source published one. If you cross and want to add a dated report, tell us — reader reports go in labelled as reader reports, never as a rule.

What to carry, and what it costs

Documents, per the El Florido notice of 29 March 2026: a valid identity document or passport for CA-4 nationals; a valid passport is obligatory for minors; and a child travelling with one parent or a third party needs an authenticated legal authorisation.

Costs are not on this page, deliberately — they have their own, with every figure traced to the issuing authority: what a border run actually costs in 2026. The short version is that Guatemala charges nothing to leave, so anyone asking you for a fee at a Guatemalan exit window is not collecting an official one.
