This page explains how to check your credit history (historial crediticio) with Guatemala’s banking regulator, the Superintendencia de Bancos (SIB): how to get a user, how to log in to the portal and what to do if the report has an error. If you are building credit from scratch, see the guide to your first credit card in Guatemala.

The steps on this page do not come directly from the SIB website. They come from the state news agency AGN (Agencia Guatemalteca de Noticias, 4 December 2024), from a piece in La Hora’s LH Comercial section based on the SIB’s official announcement (8 April 2026, the day the SIB launched its new portal) and from a Banco Industrial sheet that cites the SIB. Confirm on sib.gob.gt before you visit an office.

Step 1: get your SIB user

To see the history online you need a user for the Atención al Usuario portal. AGN describes two routes:

Through your online banking. You can request the user through your bank’s online banking. AGN says to check first with your bank whether it offers that option.

In person. If your bank does not offer it, you go to the SIB offices at 15 Avenida 7-18 zona 13, edificio Zepto, from 8:00 to 16:00. Beforehand you can fill in the service form at sib.gob.gt/FormularioHC/. The system generates a form number that you show when you arrive.

AGN, listing what the SIB shares, writes: “El trámite es personal y gratuito” (the procedure is personal and free). On timing: “El plazo para la entrega de información es de 1 a 10 días hábiles” (delivery of information takes 1 to 10 business days).

Step 2: log in and generate the report

La Hora published these steps on 8 April 2026, the day the SIB launched its new portal:

  1. Go to sib.gob.gt.
  2. Open the Atención al Usuario portal.
  3. Enter your user (your DPI number) and password.
  4. In the top-left menu, open Historial Cred and choose Historial Crediticio.
  5. Accept the conditions of article 15 on the use and dissemination of the information.
  6. The system generates the history. If it does not appear, follow the steps the page gives.

What the report contains

A Banco Industrial financial-education sheet, which names the SIB as its source, lists what the history includes:

SectionContent
Each creditLender name, type of credit or guarantee, currency, annual interest rate
DatesGrant date, due date, balance date, category dates
AmountsDebt (original principal or credit limit) and debt status
SummaryIndebtedness as debtor or co-debtor (guarantor)
RatingCategories reported each quarter over the last 60 months
ArrearsDetail for the last 60 months
Write-offsCredits the lender declared uncollectible that are still unpaid

AGN describes the same report as a record of every credit a person has applied for, including loans and credit cards over the last 60 months.

If you find an error

According to La Hora, the portal lets you update the history if you detect an inconsistency, following the on-page instructions. AGN adds two points:

  • Each supervised entity is responsible for the accuracy, completeness and quality of the information it sends to the SIB.
  • The SIB neither issues nor receives finiquitos (debt-settlement letters). If you paid off a debt, ask the lender that granted the credit for the finiquito.

Who else sees your history

AGN says the system is open to banks, finance companies, members of financial groups and other financial intermediaries approved by the Junta Monetaria (monetary board).
