The Lost Property Report is an official PNC record you need to replace lost documents: DPI (RENAP), passport (IGM), drivers license (PNC Traffic), bank cards, and institutional ID cards. It is free. You can request it online through PNC’s electronic lost-document record (linked from the Comisaría Digital) or in person at a PNC station.

Summary: Free (Q0). Online via PNC’s electronic lost-document record (policiales.pnc.gob.gt) or at a PNC sub-station. The report expires after 30 days — use it to start replacement quickly.

Step-by-step process (online)

1. Open the electronic lost-document record

From pnc.gob.gt/comisaria-digital/, choose “Constancia electrónica de extravío de documentos”, which opens policiales.pnc.gob.gt/login/extravios.

2. Fill it in with the information above

The system sits behind a browser security check; we could not review its internal fields or the document it issues (24 September 2026), so we do not publish them. Save or print whatever record it gives you.

In person instead: any PNC station or sub-station.

3. Use the report for replacement

Bring the report (digital or printed) + DPI to the corresponding institution:

Why do I need a lost-property report?

For RENAP, IGM (passport), PNC Traffic (license), your bank (cards), or your university (ID card) to replace your document, they require an official PNC report proving it was lost rather than stolen. Without the report, you’re charged a fine for “loss without report” or denied urgent replacement. The report is 100% free; you can request it online through PNC’s electronic lost-document record or at a PNC station.

What's the difference between a lost-property report and a robbery complaint?

LOST: you lost the item without knowing where or how (fell out of pocket, left in an Uber, can’t find it). No identified perpetrator and you don’t need to describe criminal events. ROBBERY: someone took it from you with violence, intimidation, or carelessness (pickpocket). The robbery complaint triggers police investigation; the lost-property report is just a record. If in doubt, choose LOST — it’s easier to get accepted for replacement.

Can I do it online without going to the sub-station?

What documents can I report as lost?

Any with legal or economic value: DPI, passport, drivers license, bank cards (debit, credit), university/work ID cards, physical NIT, IGSS card, certificates, diplomas, deeds, identified keys, and personal items (wallet, phone, laptop). For phone and laptop you can also report IMEI and serial — helps if they later turn up on the black market.

How long does DPI or passport replacement take afterward?

DPI by loss: RENAP takes 8-15 days with PNC report, cost Q85 (first replacement; second replacement Q135). Passport by loss: IGM charges the normal fee, US$50 (5 years) or US$85 (10 years), with no surcharge, and delivers it the same day as the appointment. Drivers license by loss: replaced at Maycom for Q100, and Maycom no longer asks for a police report. Bank cards: each bank varies (5-15 days, free with report).

What if I find my document after filing the report?

Nothing happens — use the original document normally. The lost-property report does NOT invalidate the original document (only RENAP/IGM does that when issuing the replacement). If you already started the replacement, you can cancel (RENAP allows cancellation within the first 48 h in some cases). If you already have the new document, both are valid until the original expires.

Does the report have an expiration date?

Yes, generally 30 days from the date of the report. After that period, RENAP/IGM/PNC Traffic may ask you to file a new report. That’s why it’s better to file the report the same day and proceed with replacement as soon as possible. If for any reason you need to extend, you can file a new report by repeating the process (free, no penalty).

What if I was robbed but file as lost?

It’s preferable to file as lost if you’re unsure — for fast replacement and because the robbery complaint triggers investigative processes that take more time. However, if it was robbery WITH VIOLENCE (gun pointed, you were beaten), you MUST file as robbery — it’s a public crime and PNC has a duty to investigate. If it was robbery without violence (pickpocket, carelessness), you can choose either option based on your priority (fast replacement vs. investigation).
