This page covers what to do when your distributor cuts the power for non-payment and how service is restored with EEGSA and Energuate in Guatemala. If the power went out because of a fault or a scheduled outage, that is a different topic: see power outages in Guatemala.
The rules come from each distributor’s official pages, checked 21 October 2026. Those pages do not give the reconnection amount in quetzales, so this page does not either.

Energuate: reconnection is automatic once you pay
Energuate’s wording: “La orden de reconexión se genera automáticamente cuando cancelas el importe de facturas que dieron origen al corte del servicio” (the reconnection order is generated automatically when you pay the bills that caused the cut). It publishes two steps:
- Pay the full amount of the overdue bills. That creates an automatic reconnection order.
- The reconnection charge appears on your next bill.
The maximum time to reconnect is 24 hours after payment. Energuate says reconnection has a cost, applied on the next bill according to the current tariff schedule.
Energuate says this procedure is done at its Oficinas Comerciales, on WhatsApp 2385-2222, on Facebook, in the APP ENERGUATE and by email at atencionalcliente@energuate.com.
EEGSA: 24 hours from the reconnection payment
On its page of commitments as a distributor, EEGSA cites Article 110 of the General Electricity Law regulations: “se debe restablecer el suministro de electricidad dentro de las 24 horas de haberse efectuado el pago de reconexión” (supply must be restored within 24 hours of the reconnection payment). On the same page EEGSA lists reconnections (clause c of Article 71 of the NTSD, the distribution service technical standards) among the customer-service cases that carry compensation.
EEGSA says it has more than 37,605 payment points and that reconnections can be paid at most of them. Its payment-methods page adds that some entities process the payment on the spot and accept reconnection payments immediately. For reports and requests, EEGSA answers on WhatsApp or 2277-7000, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Entities that issue EEGSA reconnection invoices
EEGSA’s payment-methods page shows each entity as a logo with a list of services. The names in this table come from each card’s link.

| Banco Industrial | Genera facturas de reconexión (yes) |

On the same page, 5 other in-person payment cards do not mention reconnection. The Banco Industrial card also lists payments from the United States (New Jersey, California and Illinois).
If you paid to the wrong service number (correlativo)
EEGSA lets you request a payment transfer online when an energy or reconnection payment went to the wrong correlativo.
Meter removed for tampering
EEGSA says it removes the meter when it finds tampering with the service connection. In those cases it charges for the unmetered energy consumed plus the reconnection amount to restore service.
Paying the debt in instalments
| Distributor | What it publishes |
|---|---|
| Energuate | Payment agreement to settle the debt in agreed instalments. Requirements: 4 or more bills owed, a copy of both sides of your DPI, 2 phone numbers and an email if you have one. If a third party applies: an authorisation letter from the account holder and a copy of the holder’s DPI. Energuate notes that restrictions apply. |
| EEGSA | Payment-agreement request form, with the number and amount of instalments. Terms below. |
The terms on EEGSA’s payment-agreement form say:
- Each instalment appears on your energy bill; you pay the instalment plus your monthly consumption.
- Any payment to the bill goes first to the agreement instalment.
- Customers on an agreement cannot make partial payments on consumption.
- An instalment not paid on time accumulates on the bill balance and generates a late charge.
- If you miss any instalment, you authorise EEGSA to cut the service or remove the meter. The agreement cannot be reinstated, and to restore service you must pay the full debt and the reconnection, provided the service is active.
