Xela Spanish-school prices depend on whether the quote includes a host family: on pages checked 25 October 2026, Kamalbe lists US$140.00 for 20 hours weekly, lessons only, while Pop Wuj lists US$230 weekly with homestay, plus US$65 registration, for cash paid directly in quetzales. Pop Wuj does not state weekly lesson hours, so its package cannot be treated as an equivalent teaching schedule; card payment adds US$12 per week.

Quick summary

  • Lessons versus packages: Kamalbe publishes both; Celas Maya and PLQ price homestay separately.
  • Meals: the included days differ, particularly over the weekend.
  • Registration: Casa Xelaju’s own page both waives and requests the fee.
  • Booking: PLQ says its registration coordinator is working remotely for limited hours until 23 November 2026, in the notice checked 25 October 2026.
  • Comparison scope: prices below come from each school’s own pages. Unverified schools are discussed separately.

School fees compared

All prices and terms below were checked 25 October 2026. These are published offers, with their stated conditions; they are not a ranking. A school without a stated registration charge has not necessarily waived it.

Celas Maya also lists Plan Oro at US$329.00 per week (the page we read does not show its weekly hours), checked 25 October 2026. Its notice says bank-statement amounts can vary with the daily exchange rate. Its student homestay price has no stated billing period, so it cannot support a weekly accommodation total.

Kamalbe’s standalone homestay and its combined packages are separately printed offers. The table retains the school’s published dollar and quetzal figures without recalculating either currency or rebuilding a package from separate items.

What changes the amount you pay?

Card payments and advance payment

Kamalbe’s fees page, checked 25 October 2026, lists a 2% card fee and accepts US dollars or quetzales. Pop Wuj’s same-day published US$230/week rate requires payment directly to the school in cash in quetzales; its US$12/week card supplement is separate.

Centro Maya’s rates page, checked 25 October 2026, requires the first week’s tuition and registration through its PayPal account before arrival. Additional weeks can be paid in US dollars, quetzales or US-dollar travelers checks; payment for additional tuition by major credit card carries US$10.00 per transaction. Subsequent study/residence weeks are paid on the preceding Thursday. The school does not attach a year to its seasonal rate schedule, so confirm the applicable season before payment.

PLQ accepts tuition payments at the school in quetzal cash or by Visa or Mastercard. Its homestay payments must be in quetzal cash. Its enrollment notice checked 25 October 2026 says the coordinator will be outside Guatemala until 23 November 2026, handling registrations remotely only a few hours weekly; allow for a delayed confirmation.

Meal days and arrival arrangements

Kamalbe includes a private bedroom and shared bathroom with a hot shower. A private bathroom depends on availability and an additional charge. Its homestay page specifies meals Monday-Saturday.

Centro Maya says its residence weeks normally run Sunday through Saturday, and teaching weeks Monday through Friday. Different starting days require an adjusted daily payment schedule. Sunday breakfast is included, but Sunday lunch and dinner are not.

PLQ’s homestay meals run Sunday-Friday. Its Xela homestay is optional, so independent accommodation remains possible.

Casa Xelaju needs direct clarification before booking. Its tuition page, checked 25 October 2026, excludes Sunday food, while its FAQ describes a Sunday arrival with room and food for US$10.00. The FAQ also gives ambiguous tuition wording. The comparison above uses the clearly labeled regular tuition and homestay amounts on its tuition page; it does not resolve those contradictory terms.

Activities and volunteering

PLQ includes daily activities with tuition, but its FAQ excludes trip expenses such as transport, food and accommodation. Casa Xelaju likewise excludes ground transport, hotels and meals during local field trips or excursions; laundry, dance classes and weaving lessons carry additional fees.

Pop Wuj lists its Safe Stove Project under program inclusions. Its program runs during most of the year except major holidays. The checked program page does not state a separately priced social-program fee, so confirm the specific project and any extra costs when enrolling. Absence of a separate published charge does not establish that every volunteering arrangement is free.

For a quote you can compare, request the lesson schedule, accommodation dates, meal days, registration terms and payment-method charges together.

Schools without a verified fee here

Sisai, INEPAS, Juan Sisay and ICA are not in the fee table: we could not read a current fee on their own sites on 25 October 2026. That does not mean a school has closed.
