Centro Escolar Entrevalles: IB Diploma on Carretera a El Salvador

Centro Escolar Entrevalles is the APDE group’s school on the old Carretera a El Salvador, in Santa Catarina Pinula, and an IB World School for the Diploma Programme since 9 December 2005. It is the one Guatemalan IB school where two primary sources disagree about who the students are: the IB says coeducational, the school says girls. It does not publish tuition. Girls’ school or coeducational?

We have not resolved this and will not guess. The school decides admission, so its own wording is the one to plan around: if you have a son, the APDE school it points to is Centro Escolar Solalto. Our international schools page now shows both sources rather than the IB’s label alone.

The facts, with where each one comes from

Reading the registry rows. Under the name Entrevalles, MINEDUC lists open básico and diversificado codes at Km 16.8 and two closed codes at an older Fraijanes address. No open primaria row came up under the name. At the same Km 18.5 Aldea Canchón address, MINEDUC lists an open párvulos establishment called Centro Escolar Las Colinas, and APDE’s transport pages name APDE Las Colinas as its pre-primary on this side of the city. If your child is primary age, ask the school which campus and which MINEDUC code your child would be enrolled under.

The IB Diploma at Entrevalles

The double qualification APDE describes for its secondary schools: Bachillerato en Ciencias y Letras plus the IB Diploma. The IB record lists these current subject registrations:

The IB record also names a university and career counsellor for the school, a role the other three APDE records do not list.

What the school publishes, and what it does not

Tuition. “La colegiatura APDE Entrevalles puede variar según el grado académico”; the FAQ asks families to contact the school for amounts and payment options.

Admissions. Book a visit, a diagnostic test from Kinder upward, paperwork, enrolment. New students are taken up to tercero básico. No document list for a child arriving from abroad; MINEDUC’s rules are on enrolling a foreign child in a Guatemalan school.

Transport. Morning hubs on Carretera a El Salvador at Deco City and Pradera Concepción, shared with Solalto and APDE Las Colinas families. For afternoon extracurriculars the bus drops off at no extra cost at APDE Solalto, Pradera Concepción, Distribuidora Mariscal, Hotel Hilton, Metrobowl and Paiz Américas. Door-to-door buses at a cost the page does not state.

Two claims on APDE’s pages to read carefully. APDE says its schools are “los únicos colegios en Guatemala que ofrecen el programa del Bachillerato Internacional (IB)” — the IB’s register also lists Antigua Montessori School (Diploma, since 2024) and Colegio Internacional SEK Guatemala (PYP, since 2026). APDE also cites a top-5 place in “el ranking del Mineduc”, while MINEDUC says it “no elabora rankings ni listados de ordenamiento sobre mejores establecimientos” — see how school rankings in Guatemala are built (in Spanish).

The school year

Not published on the pages we read. The November IB exam session fits the Guatemalan January-to-October year, but that is an inference from the exam month. MINEDUC’s 2026 private-school calendar: classes from 12 January to 15 October — full detail on the MINEDUC school calendar.
