A Guatemalan consulate in the US collects fees on behalf of three different authorities, and each one publishes its own price list: the Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración (IGM) prices passports, RENAP prices the DPI and civil-registry certificates, and MINEX (the Foreign Ministry) prices its own documents such as the consular ID card. That is why no government site publishes a single consular fee table. This page puts every fee we could trace to a published rule into one table, names the rule, and lists separately the services that have no published fee at all.

Rows marked as an Art. 8 conversion are our arithmetic on RENAP’s own rule, not a separate printed line: RENAP says that any service other than the birth certificate and the DPI, requested abroad, costs “a razón de un dólar de los Estados Unidos de América (US$1.00) por cada quetzal (Q1.00)” of the domestic tariff.
Passport fees: IGM, not the consulate
The consulate collects your passport fee, but the price belongs to IGM. The instrument is the Reglamento de Tarifas por Servicios Migratorios, Acuerdo IGM-029-2023 (approved by Acuerdo de Autoridad Migratoria Nacional AMN 005-2023, reformed by IGM-57-2023). Its Article 4 is the article written for “documentos emitidos en Misiones Diplomáticas o Consulares de Guatemala acreditadas en el extranjero”, and it opens with:
“Pasaporte ordinario guatemalteco o su renovación, sesenta y cinco dólares (65.00 USD) con vigencia de 5 años”
We re-downloaded the official PDF from IGM’s server on 23 September 2026 and it was byte-for-byte the same file we transcribed on 17 September, so the amounts above are the ones in force.
Three things in Article 4 are easy to miss:
- Replacement is its own line. A lost or stolen passport is replaced at US$40 (num. 8), not re-bought at $65/$100. The text reads “Reposición de pasaporte ordinario guatemalteco, cuarenta dólares de los Estados Unidos de América (40.00 USD)”. Confirm with your consulate which line applies to your case.
- Two extension stickers exist, each usable once. An 18-month sticker is free (num. 10); a 3-year sticker costs $25 (num. 11). Neither replaces a renewal; each “Puede realizarse una sola vez”.
- The consular price is higher than the domestic one. The same Acuerdo prices passports issued inside Guatemala at $50 and $85 (Art. 3). If you are going to Guatemala anyway, compare both on our in-country passport guide.

DPI and civil-registry certificates: RENAP’s dollar rules
RENAP’s Tarifario de los Servicios que presta el Registro Nacional de las Personas (Acuerdo de Directorio 15-2020, reformed by 26-2020, 35-2020, 12-2021 and 62-2022) says in Article 1 that it covers services in “Embajadas y Consulados de la República de Guatemala en el extranjero”. We read the current consolidated version on 23 September 2026. Two articles do the work for someone in the US:
- Article 6 gives two services their own dollar price when requested at a consulate, mobile consulate, embassy or online from abroad: birth certificate US$6.00 and DPI US$15.00.
- Article 8 says everything else RENAP does for you abroad is charged one dollar per quetzal of the domestic price. That is why a certificate that costs Q25 in Guatemala City costs US$25 at a consulate.

MINEX’s own documents
MINEX itself publishes very few prices. On its “Alrededor del Mundo” service pages (read 23 September 2026) we found:
- Consular ID card (TICG): US$25, valid 5 years. MINEX’s TICG page says the card “tiene vigencia por 5 años y un costo de US$25.00 incluyendo manejo y envío”. It is issued only in person at the consulate for your area, on presentation of one of: passport, old cédula de vecindad, RENAP birth certificate, DPI, or an expired TICG. The page is MINEX’s Comunicado 504-2015 — an old notice, but still the page MINEX publishes for the card. Details: TICG consular ID.
- Emergency travel pass: free. For a Guatemalan who must travel home urgently and has no passport or an expired one. It requires a consular interview that confirms the emergency, the expired passport (or a DPI photocopy), a plane ticket and two photos. MINEX ends the page with “ESTE TRAMITE ES GRATUITO”.
- Proof-of-life certificate: free. Issued to pensioners living outside Guatemala who need proof of their current residence; strictly in person, with a DPI or valid passport. Also marked free.
Services with no published fee
These services have no published price. Ask the consulate for the amount in writing:

Why the same service can cost different amounts
- Consulate vs. Guatemala. IGM prices passports differently abroad (Art. 4) and at home (Art. 3), and RENAP’s one-dollar-per-quetzal rule makes most certificates far dearer abroad. A certificate a relative orders for you inside Guatemala is charged the quetzal price, not the dollar price.
- Quetzal conversion. IGM’s tariffs are written in dollars; inside Guatemala, IGM converts them to quetzales at a quarterly reference rate (IGM-029-2023, Art. 6). At a US consulate you pay the dollar figure.
- Old figures online. Older articles still carry the abolished US$15 DPI “delivery” charge or pre-2023 passport tariffs. The rule numbers in the table above are what to check a quote against.

How much does a Guatemalan passport cost at a US consulate?
US$65 for a 5-year passport and US$100 for a 10-year passport. Both prices are set by the Instituto Guatemalteco de Migración (IGM) in Acuerdo IGM-029-2023, Article 4, numerals 1 and 2 — the article that covers documents issued at Guatemala’s missions abroad. The same instrument charges less inside Guatemala ($50 / $85, Article 3), so the consular price is the one that applies to you in the US.
How much is a DPI at a Guatemalan consulate?
US$15.00. RENAP’s tarifario (Acuerdo de Directorio 15-2020 as reformed, Article 6) sets one price for a DPI requested at a consulate, mobile consulate or embassy. The separate US$15 ‘delivery at the consulate’ charge that older pages still mention was numeral 18 of the same tarifario and was abolished by Acuerdo de Directorio 62-2022 in November 2022.
What does a replacement passport cost if mine was lost or stolen?
IGM-029-2023 Article 4, numeral 8 prices a reposición (replacement) of an ordinary passport issued abroad at US$40. Ask the consulate to confirm which line it will charge before you buy the payment instrument, because a replacement and a brand-new passport are different lines in the tariff.
Is there a fee for a consular power of attorney (poder) or a sworn statement at the consulate?
We could not find one published. MINEX’s service pages (checked 23 September 2026) list no price for a poder, an acta notarial, a declaración jurada or a signature legalization done by a consul, and none of the three tariffs that do cover consular work (IGM, RENAP, MINEX’s TICG notice) includes those acts. Ask your consulate for the amount in writing before the appointment.
Which consular services are free?
MINEX states two free services on its own pages: the pase especial de viaje (an emergency travel pass for a Guatemalan who must fly home urgently without a valid passport) and the certificado de supervivencia (proof-of-life certificate for pensioners living abroad). IGM also makes the one-time 18-month passport extension sticker exempt from payment (IGM-029-2023, Art. 4, num. 10), and RENAP does not charge for the first death certificate issued when the death is registered (tarifario Art. 10).
Why do some RENAP services cost the same number in dollars as in quetzales?
RENAP’s tarifario Article 8 says that, apart from the birth certificate and the DPI (which have their own dollar prices in Article 6), any RENAP service requested abroad is charged at one US dollar for each quetzal of the domestic price. So a marriage or death certificate that costs Q25 in Guatemala costs US$25 at a consulate.
