Declaraguate (declaraguate.sat.gob.gt) is SAT’s official portal specifically for declaring and paying taxes. It is where you generate SAT payment slips (Boletas SAT) that you then pay via bank — monthly VAT, income tax, ISO, IETAAP, penalties, late-payment interest, and other taxes.

Quick summary: Declaraguate is for PAYING. Agencia Virtual SAT is for everything else (RTU, FEL, certificates, profile). For monthly VAT returns you use BOTH: Agencia Virtual to import invoices and build the return, Declaraguate to generate the slip and pay.

⚠️ 2026 migration in progress
On June 2 and September 1, 2026, SAT moves several key forms out of Declaraguate into Agencia Virtual. Whether this affects you depends on your tax regime and forms — check Declaraguate Sunset & FEL 3.0, the 5 forms leaving Declaraguate, and the regimes that can keep using Declaraguate.

How to generate and pay a slip (step by step)

Step 1 — Identification

  1. Go to declaraguate.sat.gob.gt
  2. Enter your NIT (if your procedure does not require login) or username + password (if it is a formal return)
  3. Confirm your identity if it requests a verification code

Step 2 — Select the procedure

  1. Menu “Trámites Disponibles” → choose the tax (e.g. VAT, monthly income tax)
  2. Confirm the tax period (month/year)
  3. If you already filed the return in Agencia Virtual, the data is pre-loaded

Step 3 — Generate the slip

  1. Verify the amount to pay
  2. Generate the SAT slip (complete form with a unique number)
  3. Download the PDF — the slip has a reference number, amount, and due date

Step 4 — Pay

Option A — Online payment (fastest):

  • From your bank’s app (Banrural, Industrial, BAC, BAM, G&T)
  • “Payments” section → “SAT” → enter the slip number + amount
  • Confirm → receipt saved in your app

Option B — In-person payment at a bank:

  • Take the printed slip to any branch of a bank with SAT integration
  • The teller processes it and gives you a stamped receipt
  • Keep the stamp as proof

Option C — Through Agencia Virtual SAT (linked account):

  • If you linked a bank account to Agencia Virtual
  • You pay directly from the SAT portal, with an automatic receipt

Critical deadlines

ProcedureDue dateIf you pay late
Monthly VAT15th of the following monthPenalty + 9% annual interest, prorated
Monthly income tax10th of the following monthPenalty + interest
Annual income taxMarch 31 of the following yearSignificant penalty (% on the undeclared amount)
Quarterly ISOMonth following the quarter closePenalty + interest

Tip: SAT calculates late-payment interest automatically — if you pay late, the next time you enter the system you will see the debt updated with the surcharges.

What to do if the site goes down on the 15th

SAT servers overload on the 14th-15th (VAT deadline) and on March 31 (income tax deadline). Recommendations:

  1. NEVER wait until the last day — filing on the 5th-10th is much safer
  2. If you hit the 15th: try “odd” hours (4-6 AM, 10-11 PM have less traffic)
  3. Generate the slip and pay at a physical bank if the portal will not load — you have until the close of the 15th for it to count as on time
  4. Call 1550 to report a system outage — SAT sometimes extends the deadline if it confirms a nationwide failure

For the diaspora — paying SAT from the US

If you live in the US and need to keep SAT obligations active:

StrategyHow it works
Active GT bank accountYou pay directly from your Guatemalan banking app using the SAT slip number generated
Ask family in GTYou generate the slip in Declaraguate, send the PDF to family, they pay at a bank. They send you the receipt by WhatsApp.
Via an accountantIf you have an accountant in GT, you give them access or send them slips. They charge Q200-500/month for basic maintenance of obligations
Wise for fundingIf you need to fund a GT account from the US, Wise is the cheapest option (real market rate). See our remittance comparison

What NOT to do

  • Do not use unofficial apps that claim to pay SAT for you — fraud risk
  • Do not wait until the last day — the servers crash
  • Do not ignore overdue slips — interest grows automatically and SAT can garnish accounts
  • Do not use a VPN when paying — some bank integrations block VPN connections for security
