Ferias in December 2026

December has more ferias than any other month in our calendar: 70, against 45 in August, the next busiest (count as of September 25, 2026). Two dates stand out:

• December 8, the Immaculate Conception. It is not a national holiday: Article 127 of the Labor Code does not list it. The same article adds el día de la festividad de la localidad, so it is a holiday where the Inmaculada is the patron feast; 20 municipal ferias in this calendar fall on that day, among them the cabeceras of Escuintla and Zacapa (our guides, in Spanish: feria de Escuintla, feria de Zacapa). The night before is the Quema del Diablo.
• Two Inmaculada ferias with a published program. In Retalhuleu, the official 2025 agenda ran December 5-13, with the procession and the burning of the torito on the 8th at 20:00. In Villa Nueva (our guide, in Spanish), the 2025 feria opened on November 23 and ran to December 14, with veneration and the procession on December 5-9. The 2026 programs had not been published as of September 30, 2026.
• December 21, Santo Tomás Apóstol. In Chichicastenango, in the municipality’s own cultural calendar the feria opens on December 5, the Palo Volador flies on December 18-20, and the main day, with the procession of Santo Tomás and the 14 cofradías, is December 21 (a Monday in 2026).
