Requirements
Upload JPG scans or legible photographs when you register:
| Category | Requirements |
|---|---|
| USAC students and general public | Clear photograph with a solid background and DPI (Guatemalan identity document) |
| General-public adolescents | Clear photograph with a solid background and birth certificate issued by RENAP |
| USAC employees | Clear photograph with a solid background, DPI and recent employment confirmation issued by the academic unit |
| USAC employee’s adolescent child | Clear photograph with a solid background, birth certificate issued by RENAP and recent employment confirmation issued by the academic unit |
| USAC employee’s adult child | Clear photograph with a solid background, DPI and recent employment confirmation issued by the academic unit |

From level 2 onward, attach a valid record of the previous course or valid placement-exam result. Minors register using the CUI (identity number) on their RENAP birth certificate and upload that certificate instead of a DPI.
For foreign applicants: the published non-Central-American category requires a photograph with a solid background and a passport.
How to register, step by step
- Check first which languages, levels and schedules are available on CALUSAC’s website.
- Open Red CALUSAC, create an account if you are a new student, and sign in.
- Select CALUSAC, then Inscripción CALUSAC (CALUSAC enrollment). Choose your category.
- Complete the form, upload the documents and generate the payment order. The FAQ says the button becomes available once the enrollment team approves your documents, within a period of 6 business days during office hours. Monitor the status in the WebApp: approval can appear there even if you have not received the validation email.
- Pay at any Banrural, Bantrab or G&T branch or through online banking. You have 3 days to pay and keep your place. For online banking, the FAQ says to enter your CUI in the carné field, rather than your USAC or CALUSAC student number; select Escuela de Ciencias Lingüísticas for carrera, and use payment category 102.
- CALUSAC reviews your documents.
- Generate your comprobante de asignación (enrollment confirmation). If you paid online, CALUSAC says to wait approximately 24 hours before trying to validate payment again in the application. If more than 24 hours have passed, check with your bank that payment went through; if the bank confirms it, consult CALUSAC’s published virtual-office assistance information.
Update your profile information at your first enrollment each year. You need a Gmail account for the Moodle class platform; the teacher provides the course enrollment key on the first day.
Placement and proficiency exams
- Examen de ubicación (placement exam, Q50): for people who already know some of the language and do not want to begin at level 1. It is neither an admission exam nor a resit, and the result is not a certificate of completed courses. Registration through Red CALUSAC opened on January 2, 2026. Exams are online, except Korean, which is in person; for English, German and French, the link and instructions arrive by email. If you do not attend, there is no refund. The student is responsible for the information entered: if an incorrect email address prevents receipt of the exam invitation, CALUSAC considers the service provided. If you paid when no places were available, the page says the payment can be used for the next available dates from February to October.
- Examen por suficiencia (proficiency exam, Q155): registration opened on January 2, 2026. For English, pay the Q280 package including certification and diploma. You must wait 6 months before retaking it.

CALUSAC’s main office is in Edificio S13, Campus Universitario, zona 12, Guatemala City, according to its website footer.
