Earth Lodge is a cabin, tree-house and geo-dome wellness resort in the mountains above Antigua, at El Hato, and you can go for the day or stay the night. Two things to know before you plan: it is closed for all of September 2026 for kitchen renovations and reopens on 1 October, and the last stretch is a steep 300-metre walk down a dirt-and-stone path from the road — there is no driving to the door.
The lodge sells itself as 15 minutes from Antigua. For a day visit, the easy way up is its free shuttle at 8:00 a.m. or 12:00 p.m. from the Candelaria basketball courts near Cerro de la Cruz. Status in September 2026
The lodge’s website carries a banner on every page: closed for the entire month of September for kitchen renovations, reopening 1 October. Accommodation from 1 October onward is bookable online now. To pre-book a treatment or activity from 1 October, the lodge asks you to email earthlodge@gmail.com. If you are in Antigua during the last days of September, do not ride up expecting lunch.

The restaurant is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with no reservation needed, and breakfast is served all day. The lodge calls itself the home of Antigua’s original fried avocados, from its own organic Hass avocado farm, and calls its avocado margarita famous. It does not publish menu prices, so we do not quote any.
Cancellation rules differ by who runs the activity. Massages, tours, hikes, transport and other activities run by outside providers are subject to a cancellation policy requiring at least 24 hours’ notice. In-house activities such as the ice baths, avocado tour and temazcal can be cancelled free up to 3 hours before.

The last 300 metres are on foot, downhill from the pila on a signposted dirt-and-stone path — and back up again when you leave. The lodge warns the path can get slippery, especially in the rainy season. If you are carrying luggage, the lodge offers porters at Q50 per bag between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., or Q100 per bag after hours, requested by email at least 24 hours ahead for arrivals.
Two timing traps with the free shuttle: the last free ride up is at noon, and the last free ride down is at 12:30 p.m. If you want to stay for an afternoon temazcal or a sunset dinner, budget for the Q110 private shuttle or a ride back from the Tambor pila.

Staying overnight
The lodge lists 13 units — cabins, two tree houses and three geo domes — split into standard and premium tiers. The only nightly rate we captured is Cabaña de Agua, a cabin for up to two adults with one queen bed, private bathroom and a covered outdoor lounge, at Q750 per night (~$98). We did not capture rates for the other units.
Worth knowing before you book:
- Wi-Fi is Starlink at the main lodge and on its patio only — not in the cabins.
- Pets are welcome for a flat Q100 fee; male pets must be fixed, and three resident rescue dogs live on the property.
- Nights are cold. The lodge tells guests to bring a warm jacket or sweater and a flashlight, because outdoor lighting is deliberately minimal.
- History: the lodge says it was founded in 2005 as the first commercial property on the mountain and that in 2023 a family took over the care of the land.
Who Earth Lodge is not for
- Wheelchair users or anyone with an injury that limits walking — the lodge states it is not wheelchair accessible, and the only access is the 300-metre path.
- Young children expecting entertainment — there is a nature path and a lawn but no playground, and the temazcal is not recommended for children under 12 and the ice baths not for children 12 and under.
- Anyone who needs to work from their room — no Wi-Fi in the cabins.

Where to stay
For a day visit, sleep in Antigua. The free shuttle leaves from near Cerro de la Cruz, on the edge of town, and its last free return is at 12:30 p.m., so a morning of yoga or a guided hike followed by lunch back in Antigua fits it exactly. Stay at the lodge itself if the point of the trip is the temazcal, the sunsets and the quiet — and accept the walk up and down the path.

How do you get to Earth Lodge from Antigua?
The simplest way is the lodge’s free shuttle, which runs seven days a week with no reservation: it picks up at the Candelaria basketball courts near Cerro de la Cruz at 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and comes back down at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A private shuttle costs a flat Q110 for up to four people. By car or Uber, you turn off the paved road in El Hato onto a dirt road, drive 0.75 miles to the El Tambor washing station (pila), and walk the last 300 metres down a steep dirt-and-stone path.
How much does a day at Earth Lodge cost?
It depends what you do. Published prices: yoga class Q120, a 60-minute temazcal session Q125 per person, ice baths from Q240, the Fire and Ice package Q550, guided hikes Q200 to Q350 per person, and the Mayan massage package Q775 or Q1,075. Parking at the private lot is Q25 per car every six hours, paid in cash directly to the family when you leave. Card payments carry a 5% processing fee.
