- Verify that past employers actually paid. If you spot gaps, you can act — file a complaint or pursue recovery — without first paying for a trip home.
- Plan pension timing. Knowing exactly how many months you have logged shapes whether you keep contributing voluntarily (voluntary affiliation) or wait.
Step-by-step registration

Step 1 — Open the portal
Go to portal-afiliado.igssgt.org. You can also click the blue “Portal del Afiliado” icon on the right side of www.igssgt.org.
Step 2 — Request a user account
Below the login form (Username, Password, Captcha), find the link “Solicitar usuario aqui” (“Request user here”). Click it.
Step 3 — Fill the registration form

Step 4 — Upload your DPI
The system asks for a PDF of both sides of a valid DPI, maximum 3 MB. If your file is bigger, compress it with any free online tool or rescan it in black-and-white.
Step 5 — Accept terms and submit
Tick the terms-and-conditions box and submit. The system confirms preinscripcion on screen.
Step 6 — Wait for credentials
Credentials arrive by email. IGSS does not publish an official response time [GAP — verify with IGSS]. Check your inbox and spam folder. If nothing arrives within 48 hours, call the Call Center.

Prensa Libre — “Errors on the IGSS portal block access and user creation” (April 11, 2025) documented these five error messages affiliates hit. IGSS’s official response was that they “would verify the situation” — no concrete timeline was given, so the workarounds remain valid in 2026.
Error 1 — “No se pudo realizar la operacion”
When: Creating a new user, at the end of the form.
Likely cause: Generic backend failure, no specific diagnostic.
What to do:
- Wait 5-10 minutes and retry (could be momentary server load).
- Switch browser (Chrome to Firefox).
- Clear cookies for the igssgt.org domain.
- If it persists after 3 attempts, email

Error 2 — “Correo no registrado. Debe ingresar el correo que registro al momento de crear su usuario”
When: Password recovery.
Likely cause: You are typing a different email than the one you used at signup — common when users have multiple email accounts.

- The sender of the original message reveals which address is on file.

Error 4 — “No se ha podido realizar la preinscripcion porque el dpi ya esta registrado”
When: Creating a new user.
Likely cause: A prior attempt — even one that failed — locked your DPI in the system. This is the most frustrating error because the system blocks both new registration and password recovery (technically no user exists).

- Verify caps-lock state.
- After 3 failed attempts, use the “Recover password” option (with the same email used at signup).

Does the Portal replace the physical carnet?
No. This is the most common confusion and worth resolving here:
