Root canal plus crown

RoDa Dental says crowns are essential for back teeth (molars and premolars) after a root canal, and that front teeth may need only a filling if enough of the tooth is left. So for a molar, compare clinics on the two together:

Our sums of published starting prices, not quotes. RoDa Dental’s own stated range for root canal plus crown is higher than our sum for it: Q4,000-7,000. Use the clinic’s range for budgeting and our sums only to compare clinics. More crown prices: crowns and dentures (Spanish).

How many visits, and how long to stay

This is the part that matters if you fly in. RoDa Dental’s root-canal page, read 1 October 2026, says:

  • Most root canals take 60-90 minutes in a single appointment; front teeth 45-60 minutes, molars 75-90.
  • Complex cases or retreatment may require 2 appointments.
  • Crown preparation is a separate appointment 1-2 weeks later.
  • Mild soreness for 2-5 days after is normal, in the clinic’s FAQ.

Clínicas La Guardia’s page says a root canal can be completed in one or two visits of 60 to 90 minutes each, that multi-rooted teeth may take longer, and recommends a crown afterwards, especially on a multi-rooted tooth.

None of the clinic pages we read says how long the crown takes to make after the preparation appointment. Ask for the full timeline (root canal, crown preparation, crown fitting) in writing before you book flights.

If the root canal fails: retreatment

RoDa Dental is the only clinic of the three that publishes these prices:

  • Root canal retreatment: Q2,500-4,500 (about US$327-589).
  • Apicoectomy surgery: Q3,500-5,000 (about US$458-654).
  • The clinic gives an 85% success figure for each and says 5-10% of root canals can fail.

The US comparison table

Dental Experts Guatemala (zona 10) publishes, for international patients, a USD table titled Average prices in Guatemala compared to costs in the USA. Its rows: root canal (any tooth) US$1,200 in the USA vs US$180 in Guatemala; root canal with post/core and standard crown US$2,200 vs US$250. It is the clinic’s average-price table, not its own price list, so it is not in the ranges above, and we have not checked the US column against a US source.
