How much does a barber cost in Guatemala? A men’s haircut runs between Q80 and Q225 in Guatemala City, with a typical range of Q100-150. A beard on its own is Q50-120, the cut + beard combo is Q150-215, and the premium rituals at zone 10 barbershops reach Q200-350. Zone matters as much as the service does: the same brand charges Q150 in Proceres and Q80 in Santa Catarina Pinula (verified June 2026).

For a foreigner, the useful thing about this particular market is that the prices are public. Most Guatemala City barbershops publish an exact menu by branch, which removes the guesswork that makes other trades expensive to hire cold.

Quick summary: Typical men’s cut Q100-150 (Q80-225 across barbershops with a published, named menu; the Fresha platform aggregate for the whole capital reaches Q300). Beard alone Q50-120. Lineup Q50, moustache Q55. Cut + beard combo Q150-215. Premium rituals with hot towel, massage and a drink Q200-350 in zone 10. Home visit ~Q180. Kid’s cut Q120 at a formal barbershop. Head shave Q135.

Where the named prices come from: Baron’s Barbershop in zone 14 lists the Q120 cut (with wash, express massage and styling), the Q120 beard (hot and cold towel, straight razor, Proraso), the Q135 head shave and the Q120 kid’s cut. Brooklyn BarberShop in Ciudad San Cristobal charges Q100 for a cut and Q200 for the combo. Legacy BarberShop in zone 7 charges Q75 for a beard, Q50 for a lineup and Q150 for the combo. She Beauty Salon in zone 4 charges Q50 for a beard and Q175 for the combo. Rowel Barber in zone 10 charges Q225 for the Ritual Rowel and Q350 for the Ritual Premium; Nova Studio in zone 4 starts its ritual at Q200 for a session of up to 1h45. Lola Bendita in zone 11 charges Q55 for a moustache. Hair Philosophy charges Q180 for a home visit. Across the whole Fresha platform the aggregate is Q80-300 for a men’s cut and Q50-350 for a beard.

The low / typical / high bands in the table above are the barbershops with a published, named menu. The Fresha platform aggregate for all of Guatemala City is wider — men’s cut Q80-300 and beard Q50-350 — because it includes shops whose menus we do not list here one by one.

What Moves the Price

  • Zone — the most visible factor: Beauty Room charges Q150 for a cut in Proceres (zone 10) and Q80 at its Santa Catarina Pinula branch. Barbershops in Ciudad San Cristobal and zone 7 sit in the low band.
  • The ritual — hot towel, massage, straight razor, premium products and a drink turn a Q120 cut into a Q225-350 experience.
  • Named product lines — Baron’s includes Layrite styling and Proraso beard care in its price; shops working with recognised lines charge above the neighbourhood cut.
  • Home service — a barber who comes to you charges roughly 50-80% more than the chair equivalent.
  • Combo vs separate services — cut and beard together (Q150-215) almost always beats paying Q120 + Q75 separately.

The Zone Effect, in One Comparison

This is the single most useful number on the page for someone new to Guatemala City. The same brand, the same service, two branches:

BranchMen’s cut
Beauty Room, Plaza Madero Proceres (zone 10)Q150
Beauty Room, Santa Catarina PinulaQ80

Nothing about the haircut changes. What changes is the rent behind the chair. If you live in zone 10, 14 or 15 and are paying the top of the range for a routine maintenance cut, the branch fifteen minutes out is often the same operator at close to half the price.

Hiring as a Foreigner: Why This Trade Is Different

Our service-prices hub notes that arriving cold — especially as a foreigner or recent diaspora — typically produces starting quotes 30-100% higher than an insider referral. That premium is real across most Guatemalan trades, and it is worth knowing which services expose you to it.

Barbering mostly does not, for one structural reason: the price is written down before you walk in. Guatemala City barbershops publish their exact menus by branch on Fresha, covering zones 4, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15, plus Ciudad San Cristobal and Pinula. Read the menu, then book. The only version of the cold-quote premium that survives is the shop that will not name a price until you are in the chair — and that is a shop to walk out of, regardless of your accent.

How to Tell a Formally Operating Barbershop

This is the part no price list covers, and it matters more than the difference between a Q100 and a Q150 cut.

  • The sanitary licence. Barbershops fall under the MSPAS beauty-salon sanitary licence issued by DRCPFA. Our beauty salon sanitary licence page states that barbershops using cosmetic products (beard wax, dyes, barber oils) fall in the category, that the licence itself is free (Q0), and that it is valid for five years. A shop with a stated price and a visible licence is telling you it is a formal business.
  • Staff health cards. The same page states that anyone in client contact for beauty services must hold a current MSPAS health card (tarjeta de salud), and that this is a separate process from the establishment licence. Our tarjeta de salud page puts the card at Q30, usually issued same day, and renewed annually.
  • What it does not cover. The licence page is explicit that the requirement applies to commercial establishments — not to solo professionals working from home or as mobile providers. So the Q180 home barber is not operating outside the rules by lacking one; the question to ask a mobile barber is about blade hygiene, not paperwork.

Where to Find a Barber

  • Fresha (fresha.com) — the most complete real-price directory in Guatemala: each barbershop lists its exact menu by zone and you can book online. Covers zones 4, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15, Ciudad San Cristobal and Pinula.
  • Shops with their own site — formal barbershops such as Baron’s Barbershop (zone 14, 10 av. 11-66) publish a full menu online. Note that an own-site menu can go down: Baron’s returns a database error, so confirm by phone before travelling.
  • Instagram — most neighbourhood barbershops post their Tuesday-Wednesday promotions (the slow days) on social media rather than in directories.
  • The neighbourhood recommendation — for the monthly maintenance cut, the shop in your own zone at Q80-100 with a barber who already knows your head is hard to beat.

How to Get the Price Right

  1. Read the menu on Fresha before you book. Knowing the typical band is Q100-150 makes it obvious who is charging zone-10 prices without delivering a zone-10 service.
  2. Ask for the combo if you wear a beard. Cut and beard together saves Q25-50 against the separate services.
  3. Try the branch outside zone 10. The same chain can charge close to half in Pinula or zone 4 to the same standard.
  4. Book the ritual only when it is worth it. As an occasional treat it is fine; as a fortnightly maintenance habit at Q225 a visit it adds up to Q450 a month.
  5. Ask about a frequency rate. Several barbers offer a preferential price to a client who comes in every 2-3 weeks on a fixed cycle.

Red Flags

  • Zone-10 pricing without the zone-10 extras — Q200+ with no hot towel, named products or massage means you are paying the rent on the premises and nothing else.
  • No price published anywhere, and it depends once you reach the till.
  • Permanent promotions — a discount that never ends is the real, inflated price wearing a sticker.
  • Tool hygiene: a straight razor with no visible blade change between clients is not negotiable at any price.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a men’s haircut cost in Guatemala?

The typical range in Guatemala City is Q100-150 in 2026. Across the Fresha booking platform, men’s cuts run from Q80 in outer municipalities (the Beauty Room branch in Santa Catarina Pinula) to Q225+ for zone 10 rituals. Reference shops: Baron’s Barbershop in zone 14 charges Q120 with wash, express massage and styling included; Brooklyn BarberShop in Ciudad San Cristobal charges Q100.

How much is a beard trim at a barbershop in Guatemala?

A beard on its own runs Q50 to Q120. Legacy BarberShop (zone 7) and She Beauty Salon (zone 4) sit at Q50-75, while Baron’s Barbershop (zone 14) charges Q120 for the full service with hot and cold towel, straight razor and Proraso products. A lineup runs about Q50 and a moustache-only service Q55 at Lola Bendita in zone 11.

How much is a haircut and beard together in Guatemala?

The combo runs Q150 to Q215 in Guatemala City: Legacy BarberShop in zone 7 charges Q150, She Beauty Salon in zone 4 charges Q175 and Brooklyn BarberShop in Ciudad San Cristobal charges Q200. It is almost always cheaper than paying for the two services separately.

What is a barbershop ritual and what does it cost?

It is the premium tier: cut plus beard with hot towel, massage, high-end product lines and sometimes a drink, in sessions running up to 1 hour 45 minutes. In zone 10, Rowel Barber charges Q225 for the Ritual Rowel and Q350 for the Ritual Premium; Nova Studio in zone 4 offers one from Q200. This category is what explains the Q350 ceiling in barbering.

Can a barber come to my house in Guatemala, and what does it cost?

Yes — around Q180 for a men’s cut in Guatemala City, based on the Hair Philosophy mobile service listed on Fresha. That is roughly 50-80% above the equivalent cut in a chair, and what you are paying for is the travel and an appointment slot that is exclusively yours.

Will I be charged more as a foreigner at a barbershop?

Barbering is one of the few Guatemalan services where you are largely protected, because the prices are published. Our service-prices hub warns that arriving cold — especially as a foreigner or recent diaspora — typically produces starting quotes 30-100% higher than an insider referral, but that premium needs an unpublished price to hide in. Most Guatemala City barbershops list their exact menu on Fresha by branch, so you can read the price before you sit down. Check the menu first, and treat any shop that will not name a price before cutting as a shop to skip.
