Guatemalan Embassy and Consulate in London

The Embassy of Guatemala in London has a Consular Section at the same address. The October 2026 London Diplomatic List lists the contacts below.

For residents of Ireland: Ireland’s January 2026 diplomatic list gives the London embassy address and also lists a Guatemalan honorary consul in Mullingar. Ask which office can handle your procedure before arranging travel; the listing does not establish that the honorary consul issues passports.

Main Consular Services

Ask the Consular Section to confirm service availability, appointments, documents and collection arrangements. National tariffs establish fees; confirm how the London office collects them.

Guatemalan passport

  • Renewal: 65.00 USD for 5 years or 100.00 USD for ten years, under Acuerdo IGM-029-2023, Article 4 (the IGM tariff agreement).
  • First passport: the same issue-or-renewal tariff applies.
  • Ask the Consular Section how to pay in the UK and which documents to bring.

DPI (Documento Personal de Identificación)

The Documento Personal de Identificación (DPI) is Guatemala’s personal identification document. Article 6 of RENAP’s tariff lists US$15.00 for DPI services requested abroad through mobile consulates, consular offices, consulates, embassies or electronic channels. Ask London about renewal or replacement availability and the current collection procedure.

See the RENAP tariff and the consular fees guide. The DPI guide for residents of the USA concerns US consulates; confirm London’s arrangements separately.

Birth registration for children born in the UK

For inscripción de nacimiento (birth registration), RENAP’s consular procedure lists:

  • Notice of the birth to the Guatemalan consulate in the country where it occurred.
  • A form sent by MINEX’s Consular Service to the Registro Civil de las Personas (civil registry) for registration.

RENAP’s services page states that registration within the established deadline is free and gives Q. 25.00 for late registration. Article 8 of the tariff separately says overseas service fees follow the tariff at US$1.00 for each Q1.00, with conversion to local currency where applicable; birth-certificate and DPI issuance requests abroad are exceptions. Ask the Consular Section to confirm the applicable payment rather than treating the domestic amount as a sterling quote.

See Register a Birth Abroad as Guatemalan.

Apostille

For a UK-issued document, use the UK Legalisation Office guidance. The office checks signatures, stamps or seals against its records and attaches an apostille when they match. This service cannot legalise documents issued outside the UK; those must be legalised in the country of issue.

For Guatemalan documents, see MINEX apostille. The guides to apostilling US documents for Guatemala and Guatemalan document apostilles from the USA cover US procedures, rather than UK-issued documents.

Notarial services

Ask the Consular Section whether it can handle your proposed notarial document, what it requires and what it charges before preparing paperwork.

Other services

For empadronamiento (electoral registration), consult the TSE guidance below. Ask the Consular Section directly about any other service you need.

How to Arrange an Appointment

Contact 020 7221 7448 or consuladoUK@minex.gob.gt to ask about appointments. Explain which procedure you need and confirm the date, documents, copies, payment method and collection arrangements before travelling. Ask whether the office accepts visitors without an appointment.

Sending Money to Family in Guatemala

Compare a current quote for your chosen payment method and the way your family will receive the money. Check the fee, exchange rate, amount received and delivery estimate together.

Guatemalan Events and Culture in the UK

For events, community groups, restaurants or shops, ask for current details before visiting or joining. Check dated embassy announcements rather than assuming a gathering takes place every year.

Voting from the UK

The Tribunal Supremo Electoral (TSE), Guatemala’s electoral authority, regulates overseas voting for president and vice president under Articles 1 and 2 of the Reglamento de Voto en el Extranjero (overseas voting regulations).

If you live in the UK:

  1. Check the election call before planning where to vote. Article 9 leaves overseas constituencies to the TSE’s Decreto de Convocatoria (election call), taking account of registration totals, voting method and legal, logistical and technological criteria.
  2. A valid DPI is required to register or update your details. Under Article 5, a valid passport issued by the competent authority may be used only if you previously registered your DPI for the exercise of civic rights and duties. The compilation records amendments dated 26 February 2026 and 15 July 2026.
  3. Voting has separate requirements. Article 8 requires Guatemalan citizenship, registration in the Padrón Electoral del Extranjero (overseas electoral roll), identification with a DPI or valid passport under the applicable identification conditions, and that you have not already voted in the same election. Overseas registration enables voting at an authorised overseas polling centre under the regulation’s procedure.

Use the TSE foreign-voting portal, which offers an English interface option. Check the relevant election call for polling locations; do not assume that a UK polling centre will be available.

Driving in the UK

Use the official driving with a non-GB licence checker to check your circumstances before driving in Great Britain. Check Northern Ireland’s requirements separately.

For a Great Britain licence application, GOV.UK lists the provisional licence fee as £34 online or £43 by post. Online applicants must be at least 15 years and 9 months old, be able to read a number plate from 20 metres away and have permission to live in Great Britain for at least 185 days. Postal applications use form D1, available from most Post Offices, and require a cheque or postal order and correct postage. See Apply for your first provisional driving licence.

For cars, the theory test costs £23. The practical test costs £62 on weekdays or £75 on evenings, weekends and bank holidays. The hazard-perception test includes 14 video clips. These are Great Britain fees, not a statement of Northern Ireland fees or your entitlement to use a Guatemalan licence.

Emergencies

The London Diplomatic List gives emergenciasUK@minex.gob.gt for emergencies and 020 7221 7448 for the Consular Section. Ask the embassy for its out-of-hours contact arrangements.

Passport replacement: Article 4, item 8 of Acuerdo IGM-029-2023 sets the overseas ordinary-passport replacement tariff at 40.00 USD. Contact the Consular Section for the procedure and documents needed in your case.

Procedures from the UK: Common Situations

  • Guatemalan birth certificate: ask the Consular Section about the application route. Article 6 of the RENAP tariff lists US$6.00 for a birth-registration certificate requested abroad through its specified consular or electronic channels.
  • Guatemalan criminal record for a UK visa or job: confirm the exact document and legalisation requirements with the authority requesting it before applying.
  • Marrying a British partner in Guatemala: consult GOV.UK’s marriage-abroad guidance and confirm the registration requirements for your circumstances.
  • Using a Guatemalan university qualification in the UK: ask the receiving employer, university or professional regulator which documents, translations or assessments it requires before paying for them.

The RENAP tariff, Article 7 also provides a 25% surcharge when RENAP services are charged electronically using a debit or credit card. Confirm the applicable total and payment route.
