Hun Nal Ye charges Q100 per person to enter (ages 3 and over) and Q150 if you camp, and it opens Wednesday to Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You must book before you go. The park sits in aldea San Vicente Chicatal, in the municipality of San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz, and its draw is a string of clear river pools, one sacred cenote and a rope swing into the deepest pool. At Banguat’s reference rate of Q7.64 per dollar (2 October 2026), the entry fee is about $13.

The fees come from two government sources that agree on entry and camping: the Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes’ Sistema de Información Cultural listing (modified 7 August 2026) and INGUAT’s Hun Nal Ye guide (published 17 September 2026). They disagree on room prices, so both versions are below. The opening days and the booking rule come from INGUAT alone. The name, per the Ministry, means “La Casa del Dios de la Luna” — the house of the moon god.

Staying the night: the two published rate cards

RoomMinistry SIC (modified 7 Aug 2026)INGUAT guide (17 Sep 2026)
Single, private bathroom, with entry—Q450 per person (~$58.89)
Double, with entryQ600 per couple (~$78.52)Q650 (~$85.06)
Triple, with entry—Q800 (~$104.69)
Child aged 3 to 11—Q250 per night (~$32.72)

The INGUAT figure for a double is Q50 higher than the Ministry’s and is the more recent of the two, but neither is the park’s own price list, because the park’s website (hunalye.com.gt) did not resolve when we checked on 3 October 2026. Ask for the current rate when you book. INGUAT describes the rooms as modest, with the basics, and the food as local dishes rather than a wide menu.

When to go

Both official sources point to the dry season. INGUAT names November to April; the Ministry warns that in the rainy season higher river levels can limit access and some of the water activities. If you visit between May and October, ask when you book which activities are running.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the entrance to Hun Nal Ye?

Q100 per person for visitors aged 3 and over (admission only), or Q150 per person with the right to camp. Both the Ministerio de Cultura y Deportes’ SIC listing (modified 7 August 2026) and INGUAT’s guide (17 September 2026) publish those two figures. Canopy is Q100 extra per the SIC listing. At Banguat’s reference rate of Q7.64 per dollar (2 October 2026), Q100 is about $13.

What days is Hun Nal Ye open?

Wednesday to Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., according to INGUAT’s guide published 17 September 2026. The Ministry’s listing does not publish hours. That leaves Monday and Tuesday closed on the only schedule we found.

Do I need a reservation for Hun Nal Ye?

Yes, according to INGUAT: visitor numbers are limited, so you must book in advance, and independent travellers book by contacting the park directly. The park’s own website, hunalye.com.gt, did not load when we checked on 3 October 2026.

How much does it cost to stay overnight at Hun Nal Ye?

The two official sources differ. The Ministry’s SIC listing (7 August 2026) gives Q600 per couple for a double room including park entry. INGUAT’s guide (17 September 2026) gives Q450 per person for a single room, Q650 for a double, Q800 for a triple, all with private bathroom and admission, and Q250 per night for children aged 3 to 11. Confirm the rate when you book.

Can you swim in the cenote at Hun Nal Ye?

Not in the cenote. INGUAT says the Místico cenote, the only one in the park, is closed to swimmers for safety because the current is very strong; you can see it from the footpaths. You can swim in the natural pools, including the Poza de la Garrucha, which INGUAT calls the largest and deepest, and there are artificial pools near the restaurant for children.

How do I get to Hun Nal Ye from Cobán?

The park is in aldea San Vicente Chicatal, San Pedro Carchá. INGUAT says there are no good public transport links (you would change vehicles several times) and recommends an organised tour from Cobán, which typically includes return transport, entry and a guide. Neither official source publishes a distance or drive time.
