Multipro, a fourth retailer, lists the same four sizes with a price range of Q4,850 to Q51,500 but its page text does not show which price goes with which size. Mariscal also shows a second, higher figure next to its 1,300, 3,000 and 7,000-litre prices; the table uses the lower one, so confirm which applies at the till.
The same tank costs up to 32% more at one store than another. The 600-litre model ranged from Q4,782 to Q6,324.61 on the same day. Compare at least two retailers before you buy.
Prices have gone up. Mariscal’s own guide, dated 26 February 2025, listed the 600-litre self-cleaning model at Q4,779.95 for February 2025. Its sale price on 24 September 2026 was Q5,349.95.
Which size
Mariscal’s product sheet for the 600-litre tank (1.60 m tall, 0.86 m wide) says it serves 5 users in a rural area. We found no retailer sizing table for the larger models, so ask the seller or your builder to size the tank for your household.
What the tank price leaves out
- The absorption pit or infiltration trench. Mariscal’s guide says the treated water must drain into one, and lists needing it among the biodigestor’s disadvantages.
- Installation and excavation. No retailer we read publishes an installed price. Ask a builder to quote labour, digging, piping and backfill separately, and see plumber and mason rates for the trades involved.
- The inspection box (caja de registro), Q1,503.95 at Mariscal.
- Sludge purging. The self-cleaning design has a built-in sludge-purge system that, Mariscal says, needs no specialised equipment, but Mariscal still says the sludge has to be purged periodically. The system is not meant for industrial or chemical wastewater.
Emptying an existing tank (pump-out)
A traditional fosa is emptied by a tanker truck (camión cisterna) that sucks out the wastewater. Companies such as Limpia Fosas Guatemala, Servicios Ecotec and Multiservicios Génesis advertise the service but publish no prices on their websites.
The only prices we found are classified ads on Anuto. The two ads we opened were marked as last posted more than a year before 24 September 2026, and the related ads listed beside them show no date:

How the pricing works, according to one of those ads: you pay per tanker trip until the tank truck is full (8 to 9 cubic metres), payment is on completion, and you book at least 2 days ahead. Use these figures to judge quotes, not as a current price list.
Before you buy a house on septic: five questions
- Is it a prefabricated biodigestor or a built concrete fosa? A biodigestor has a sludge-purge system someone still has to operate periodically; a traditional fosa is emptied by a tanker.
- When was it last emptied or purged, and by whom? Ask for the receipt.
- Where does the treated water go? There should be an absorption pit or infiltration trench.
- What size is it, and how many people live in the house? The 600-litre model is sold for 5 users.
- Who will quote the replacement? Get the tank price from two retailers and the installation from a builder, separately.

What does the tank price not include?

Is a biodigestor the same as a septic tank?
It does the same job. Mariscal describes the Rotoplas biodigestor as a modern replacement for the traditional fosa septica that gives wastewater a primary treatment before it goes to an absorption pit. Its selling point is a built-in sludge-purge system that, Mariscal says, needs no specialised equipment, although the seller still says the sludge must be purged periodically.
