If you are in Guatemala on January 6, it is not a paid holiday. The food of the day is the rosca de reyes (literally the kings’ ring). The San Martín bakery chain, for example, offered it from December 27 through January 6 in the 2025-26 season.
Is January 6 a holiday?
No. Guatemala’s paid holidays for private-sector workers are listed in Article 127 of the Labour Code, and January 6 is not on that list. The rosca de reyes: what it is
The most detailed published description we found is from San Martín, a bakery chain with stores in Guatemala City and elsewhere in the country. Its announcement for the 2025-26 season describes the large rosca, in Spanish, as a “pan semidulce decorado con dulces típicos de higo, camote, papaya, piña y chilacayote”. That means a semi-sweet bread decorated with candied fig, sweet potato, papaya, pineapple and chilacayote. The bakery says the candied fruits evoke the gifts the Three Kings brought to the Baby Jesus.
The figure inside. Each rosca has a figure hidden in it. In the 2025-26 season, San Martín put a collectible ceramic figure in the large and cream-filled roscas. The figures come from a series of six designs hand-painted in Spain: the Three Kings, the Baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. The mini rosca came with a plastic Baby Jesus.
The cream-filled version. For 2025-26, San Martín brought back a rosca filled with Bavarian cream (crema Bavaria) alongside the classic recipe.

Only the mini changed: up Q1.50, from Q16.50 to Q18.00. These are one chain’s prices from last season. Do not read them as a market price or as the 2027 price.
When it is on sale. In 2025-26, San Martín announced all three versions for sale from December 27, 2025 to January 6, 2026, in stores, by home delivery, on its website and through its new app. The 2024-25 season also ran from December 27 to January 6.
In-store events. For the 2025-26 season, San Martín also announced activities at stores in Guatemala City and elsewhere in the country: making the largest rosca de reyes, a Three Kings show, live music, and a chance to win San Martín prizes with a rosca purchase. The text we read did not list the stores or the times.
What else ends on January 6
