Live USD/GTQ calculator — convert US dollars to Guatemalan quetzales (or vice versa) using today’s Bank of Guatemala reference rate. Useful for planning remittances, imports, travel, or any transaction involving both currencies.

How to use the calculator

The calculator on the main exchange rate page lets you enter any amount in USD or GTQ and get instant conversion with the latest Banguat rate.

Important note: This is the official reference rate. What you’ll actually receive at a commercial bank will be slightly less (when selling USD) or more (when buying USD) due to the bank spread.

Today’s reference rate

The Banguat rate updates daily. For exact today’s figure, visit the exchange rate page, where we show the official reference + actual buy/sell rates at 8 commercial banks.

What you’ll actually receive

If you’re selling USD (changing dollars to quetzales) at a bank:

  • Multiply your amount by the bank’s BUY rate (not Banguat)
  • Typical BUY rates: Q7.43 - Q7.60 per USD (varies by bank)
  • Result: you’ll receive Q0.05-Q0.22 less per dollar than Banguat rate

If you’re buying USD (changing quetzales to dollars) at a bank:

  • Divide your amount by the bank’s SELL rate
  • Typical SELL rates: Q7.81 - Q7.85 per USD
  • Result: you’ll be charged Q0.16-Q0.20 more per dollar than Banguat

For US-side remittances

If you’re sending remittances, the rate you see when sending (Western Union, MoneyGram, Wise) is NOT the Banguat rate — it’s what those services choose to offer (typically between the bank’s buy and sell). To compare services and maximize what your family receives, see our remittance comparison.
