The National Conservatory: free cursos libres, and the association’s paid weekend diplomas
The Conservatorio Nacional de Música Germán Alcántara is at 3a avenida 4-61, zona 1, Guatemala City. The Ministry of Culture and Sports announces its admissions.
- Daily afternoon plan (plan diario). Guatemala.com’s report on the 2026 intake describes the conservatory’s cursos libres (ages 13-15) as free (cursos libres gratuitos); it gives no fee for the Bachillerato en Música (ages 7-12). It says classes for both run Monday to Friday in the afternoon. The government news agency AGN said on 29 October 2025 that admission for the 2026 school year was open to children aged 7 to 12 and adolescents aged 13 to 15, with or without prior musical knowledge. Guatemala.com describes the aptitude test: imitating rhythms with the hands, reproducing notes played on the piano and singing a known song. The two reports give different exam dates, so check the Ministry’s announcement for the next intake.
- Weekend diploma programme. The Asociación Pro Conservatorio Nacional publishes a total of Q6,600 (
$864; undated page) over seven semesters for its elementary and basic diplomas, paid as registration and monthly fees, and Q8,475 ($1,110) over nine semesters for electric guitar. The association says the total could be higher if a student does not pass the courses assigned in a semester, because that stretches the programme beyond seven semesters. Its page carries no date and still includes COVID-era text about online classes and a Listado de Admitidos 2023 (list of students admitted in 2023) entry. The association works this out at roughly Q26 to Q36 per class hour. Classes are in groups, on Saturday mornings (8:00-12:00), Saturday afternoons (14:00-17:20) or Sunday mornings (8:00-12:00), and admission exams and registration take place only in January and July.

A tutor on Apprentus offers home lessons in piano, guitar, violin and singing in Antigua Guatemala and the surrounding area, in Spanish and English, from 26 euros an hour as the site displayed it on 24 September 2026 (the listing says the tutor has been an instructor on Apprentus since December 2023).
