Full Moon in Guatemala: Next Full and New Moon in Local Time, Plus the Meteor Showers

This page answers two questions for a night out in Guatemala, whether that is a full-moon hike, a dark-sky night at the lake or at Tikal, or a meteor shower: when is the next full moon and the next new moon in Guatemala time, and when do the year’s meteor showers peak.

Why the Guatemala date can differ from other calendars. The U.S. Naval Observatory (USNO) gives every phase in Universal Time. Guatemala keeps UTC-6 all year, so a phase in the first six hours of a UT day falls on the previous evening here: the full moon of 26 October 2026 at 04:12 UT is 25 October at 22:12 in Guatemala.

Meteor showers, late 2026 and 2027

The International Meteor Organization (IMO) publishes an annual Meteor Shower Calendar with a working list of the showers, their activity period, the date of maximum and a zenithal hourly rate (ZHR), which the IMO defines as a calculated maximum number of meteors an ideal observer would see in perfectly clear skies with the shower’s radiant overhead. These are the IMO’s figures for the main showers from October 2026 to August 2027 (maximum dates as the IMO gives them, in UT):

The moon at the 2026 peaks. The IMO’s 2026 calendar says no moonlight disturbance will affect near-maximum observations of the October Draconids, the Orionids and the Leonids (the Orionid and Leonid maxima fall near first quarter), and that there is only a waxing crescent at the Geminid maximum. The same calendar says the η-Aquariid maximum occurs about four days after the full moon, and that conditions are also poor for the maximum periods of the Southern δ-Aquariids, the Aurigids and the Ursids. For the Ursids it gives the maximum on 22 December 2026 at 22h UT, two days before full moon; discussing a possible weak Ursid filament encounter earlier that day, it notes the Moon will be 96% illuminated and the chances for reliable optical data small. The phase table above gives the moon’s phases for any maximum date.

ZHR is defined for ideal conditions (perfectly clear skies, radiant overhead).
