Freshness - read this first. The 2026 dates are announced (Sat Nov 14 - Sun Nov 15, 10th edition, theme “Ciudad Floreciente”), confirmed by three Guatemalan outlets in late July 2026. But the organizer’s own site still showed 2025 content when we checked on August 24, 2026, and the 2026 road closures, parking prices and shuttle routes have not been published. Every logistics figure below is labelled with the year it comes from - most are 2025. We update this page when the official 2026 agenda and the municipal closure notice land.
Antigua’s Festival de las Flores is not a garden show. It is a logistics event. In 2024, INGUAT counted 327,469 visitors over one weekend. In 2025, more than 100,000 vehicles were managed across the weekend. That is what you are actually planning for.
Most English pages about this festival describe pretty flowers. Very few publish the pedestrian-zone boundaries, the nine parking lots, the three free shuttle buses, or the fact that a local restaurant reported an 85% sales collapse because residents fled the centre. That is the part that changes your day.
Quick summary: The 10th Festival de las Flores peaks Saturday November 14 and Sunday November 15, 2026 in La Antigua Guatemala, under the theme “Ciudad Floreciente”. The “Inicia la Primavera” parade is Friday November 13, and commemorative gardens are installed citywide November 7-15. Entry to the main festival was free in 2025 and is expected to be free in 2026, but the organizers have not confirmed it for 2026 yet - check official channels. In 2025 the centre was closed to vehicles from Saturday 5:00 a.m. to Sunday 11:30 p.m., with nine municipal lots at Q20/car and Q10/motorcycle and three free shuttle routes - all 2025 figures, not 2026 prices. Combine it with Sumpango’s giant kites on November 1 and early-to-mid November is the strongest event window of the year around Antigua.

November is not accidental. Antigua’s Concejo Municipal declared November the city’s “Mes de las Flores” back in 2019, and the program stretches from mid-October to mid-November rather than sitting on one weekend.
The full 2026 calendar
The festival runs as a month-long program with a two-day peak. This is the announced 2026 agenda as reported by Guatemalan press in July and August 2026.

The single most useful line on this page: the commemorative gardens are up from November 7, a full week before the crush. If your goal is photographs of a city dressed in flowers rather than the event atmosphere, go midweek - the installations are there and the 300,000 people are not.
The floral contest categories announced for 2026 are Barrio con Mejor Actitud, Categoría Libre, Fachadas, Bicicletas and Monumental. In 2025 the installations went up at Parque Central, the Cooperación Española, Tanque de la Unión, the Fuentes de Santa Rosa and Concepción, Escuela de Cristo, the Arco de Correos and among the city ruins, with concerts at Parque Central and the Cooperación Española. Assume 2026 repeats the pattern, not the exact list.
The flowers themselves - roses, sunflowers, chrysanthemums, artichokes, gerberas, lilies and assorted foliage - come largely from San Juan Sacatepéquez, Tecpán, farms around Sacatepéquez and San Pedro Las Huertas. Organizers also run a composting programme that recycles the plant material used at the event.
Is it free?
In 2025, yes. Prensa Libre reported for that edition: “La entrada será gratuita para todo público”. Perspectiva describes the 2026 main weekend as free-entry as well.
But no 2026 statement from the organizers themselves has been published. The honest position: free entry is 2025’s confirmed fact and 2026’s strong expectation - confirm at the official site or Instagram before you build a trip around it.
What is ticketed: the satellite events. The organizer’s site runs a storefront with an entries page for the Cocinando con Flores contest, and the trail run and fashion show are registered events.

⚠️ A note on the numbers you will see elsewhere. Figures of 350,000 and 500,000 circulate for this festival - both were pre-event forecasts, not counts, and we do not publish them as attendance. Figures like 328,000 visitors and US$60 million belong to Medellín’s Feria de las Flores in Colombia, a completely different event that dominates search results for festival de las flores. If a page mixes those in, it is not describing Guatemala.
The downside nobody advertises. After the 2025 edition, Prensa Libre reported tourism and services representatives asking publicly for “más orden” - citing parking shortages, traffic congestion and street vendors spilling into pedestrian space. One restaurant reported an 85% drop in sales that weekend because its regulars stayed away from the centre entirely. Hotel occupancy was reported as full.
That is the trade: a genuinely beautiful event that is also genuinely overwhelming. Decide which one you came for.
Crowd survival: closures, parking and shuttles
⚠️ Everything in this section is from the 2025 edition. The Municipalidad republishes closures, parking prices and bus routes each year, typically in the week before the festival. Q20 parking is a 2025 price and is not a 2026 price. Expect the 2026 notice around November 7, 2026.
Pedestrian-only zone (2025). Between 6a and 1a Calle Poniente, and from 7a to 2a Avenida Sur.
Closure window (2025). Vehicles out from Saturday 5:00 a.m. until Sunday 11:30 p.m. - a continuous 42.5-hour closure, not a daily one. If your hotel is inside that box, you cannot drive to it on Saturday.
Still drivable in 2025: 7a Calle Poniente and Calle de Chipilapa toward the RN-10, Calle de los Duelos, 1a Calle Alameda Santa Rosa, and 4a Avenida. Four bypass routes were published for arrivals via RN-10, RN-14, Jocotenango and Vuelta Grande.

2025 rate: Q20 per day for cars, Q10 for motorcycles. Hours: Saturday 4:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m., Sunday 4:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Toilets were located at the municipal parking areas.

When to arrive. No source we found publishes a “best day” or “quietest hour”, so we will not invent one. What we can say from sourced facts: the parking lots opened at 4:30 a.m. in 2025 and the official inauguration was 8:00 a.m. on the Saturday. Arriving before 8:00 a.m. therefore puts you in the city before the program formally starts. That is an inference from the published times, not published advice.
Official practical advice from the 2025 edition: arrive early; stay hydrated; sun protection; comfortable shoes; tag or ID children; locate the emergency points on arrival. And one that catches visitors out - “No bocines en Antigua Guatemala, ya que está prohibido”: car horns are banned in Antigua, festival or not. Separately, INGUAT has published 1550 as its visitor assistance line (AGN, 2022).

On San Juan del Obispo: it is a genuinely good add-on - a small village a short ride from the centre, and in 2023 it deliberately timed a Níspero edition to catch the flower-festival crowd. But its 2026 dates are not published, so treat the combination as a possibility to check, not a plan.
Who runs it
The festival was founded in 2017 by Andrea Contreras, inspired by her grandmother’s stories of Antigua’s flower-filled gardens. It is run by a private organizing committee - importantly, not by the Municipalidad, though the Municipalidad and INGUAT are partners and enablers. Banco Industrial is the headline sponsor.
Over its first decade, organizers report the festival has involved 4,000+ artists, 200+ workshops, 50 exhibitions and 3 cultural exchanges. Those are organizer-supplied figures repeated by two outlets, not independently audited.

On August 24, 2026 it still carried the 2025 agenda and described the “noveno aniversario” - the 2026 dates existed only in news coverage. Re-check it in October 2026 for the authoritative program.
Early November is Antigua’s best event window
