In short: Yes, Amazon.com ships to Guatemala, but only eligible items. Amazon’s own list of AmazonGlobal destinations includes Guatemala. International shipping to Central America starts at US$9.99 per shipment (Standard), rising with weight and item count. Guatemala is not on Amazon’s free international delivery list. Whatever route you use, the parcel owes Guatemalan import tax: 12% IVA on the value plus freight and duty, and no general tax-free threshold for courier parcels. For light, non-eligible or Marketplace items, a Miami casillero is the other route. On Quick Box USA’s published rates, 1 lb costs US$4.80 before tax.
Every figure here comes from Amazon’s own help pages and Guatemala’s customs rules, read on the dates shown. This page has no Amazon affiliate links; nothing here is a recommendation to buy from Amazon.
What Amazon itself says
Amazon’s help page “AmazonGlobal Export Countries and Regions” (read 24 September 2026) lists Guatemala under the Americas, alongside Honduras, Belize, Costa Rica and Mexico. Three sentences on that page and its neighbours decide what that means in practice:
- Not everything qualifies. “Available product lines, shipping rates, and fees may vary depending on the delivery address for your order.”
- Marketplace sellers are a separate question. “There may be limitations on where and whether Amazon Marketplace sellers offer international shipping.”
- Duties are yours. “Your packages may be subject to the customs fees and import duties of the country to which your order ships. These charges are the recipient’s responsibility.”
How to check a specific item: set your delivery address to Guatemala on Amazon.com before adding it to the cart. The product page and checkout then show whether it ships and at what cost.
Amazon’s shipping rates to Central America
From Amazon’s “Global Shipping Rates” page (read 24 September 2026). These are the minimum per shipment. Amazon says the price then rises with the number of items, their weight and their size.
| Amazon shipping speed | Central America: base per shipment |
|---|---|
| Standard | from US$9.99 |
| Expedited | from US$10.99 |
| Priority Courier | from US$18.99 |
In quetzales at the Banguat reference rate of Q7.63682 per dollar (24 September 2026), the Standard floor is about Q76.
Free shipping: Amazon publishes a list of destinations where orders above a minimum ship free. We checked it on 24 September 2026. It includes Costa Rica and Colombia (US$35) and Chile (US$49), but not Guatemala.
The Guatemalan import tax on your order
This part is the same whether Amazon delivers the box or a courier does. The rules below come from the customs code and the IVA law, as re-verified for our import calculator on 22 September 2026.
- IVA is 12%, charged on the CIF value (item + insurance + freight) plus any duty.
- DAI (duty) depends on the tariff line: 0% for phones, laptops and computer parts; 15% for clothing, shoes, TVs and game consoles, among others. The import calculator lists the line for each category.
- Compounded, the tax on CIF is 12.0% at 0% duty, 17.6% at 5% and 28.8% at 15%.
- No general tax-free threshold for courier parcels. The regional customs regulation (RECAUCA, art. 566) puts courier parcels up to US$1,000 into a simplified procedure. It classes them as “Envíos sujetos al pago de tributos” — parcels that owe tax. The US$1,000 decides the paperwork, not whether you pay.
- The one small-parcel exemption is for family parcels. CAUCA art. 116 exempts non-commercial parcels “remitidas por familiares desde el exterior” up to US$500. RECAUCA art. 596 allows it once every six months. The text is about parcels sent by a relative abroad, not about purchases shipped by a retailer.
Amazon direct vs a Miami casillero
A casillero is a Miami address run by a Guatemalan courier. You ship your Amazon order there; the courier flies it to Guatemala, clears customs and delivers. Our courier guide and the Quick Box USA review cover the companies.
A worked example using Quick Box USA’s published rate card (read in a browser on 3 September 2026). Its Estándar plan costs US$3.30 per pound, with no subscription. It adds an airport handling fee per package: US$1.50 for 1 lb, US$3.00 for 2 lb, US$4.50 for 3 lb, and US$6.00 for 4 lb or more. Quick Box says its rates “No incluyen IVA. No incluyen impuesto de importación (DAI).”
| Package weight | Quick Box freight | + handling | = Before tax and delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 lb | US$3.30 | US$1.50 | US$4.80 |
| 3 lb | US$9.90 | US$4.50 | US$14.40 |
| 10 lb | US$33.00 | US$6.00 | US$39.00 |
Our arithmetic from Quick Box USA’s rate card. Tax is then added on top, the same as for an Amazon parcel. Home delivery in the metro area is Q8.40 on the Standard plan.
How to read this against Amazon:
- For a single light item, the casillero’s US$4.80 is under Amazon’s US$9.99 floor. Amazon’s floor is the minimum, before per-item charges.
- For heavier or multi-item carts, Amazon’s per-item charges only show at checkout. Price the same cart both ways before choosing.
- For items Amazon won’t ship to Guatemala, including Marketplace listings whose sellers don’t ship abroad, the casillero is the only route of the two, because the item ships to a US address.
- Delivery time and claims differ by route. The Amazon help pages we read on 24 September 2026 give no Guatemala transit times, so check the estimate at checkout. On the courier side, Quick Box’s rate card includes free insurance up to US$200 per package.
Before you order: a checklist
- Set your Amazon delivery address to Guatemala and look for the item’s international-shipping message.
- Note the duty class of what you’re buying. A 0% laptop and a 15% pair of shoes land very differently. Run the import calculator.
- Price the same cart through a casillero, using that courier’s own calculator, and add the same tax.
- Keep the invoice for the declared value.
- Check what you can’t import in a parcel. Medicines shipped for personal use fall under MSPAS’s import requirements (form F-IP-r-01, section 6, “Importación de usuario final”): the invoice, form F-SI-d-03, your DPI or passport and product photos, plus a Guatemalan doctor’s letter and prescription for a patient. Our mission trips page covers the same form’s rules for donated medicine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amazon ship to Guatemala?
Yes, for eligible items. Amazon’s help page ‘AmazonGlobal Export Countries and Regions’ lists Guatemala among the countries that can receive Amazon.com orders through AmazonGlobal. Not every product qualifies: Amazon says available product lines, rates and fees vary with the delivery address, and that Marketplace sellers may not offer international shipping at all.
How much does Amazon charge to ship to Guatemala?
Amazon’s ‘Global Shipping Rates’ page gives a minimum per shipment for Central America: from US$9.99 Standard, US$10.99 Expedited and US$18.99 Priority Courier (read 24 September 2026). Amazon says the rate rises from that base with the number, weight and size of the items, and the exact figure appears only at checkout.
Does Amazon offer free shipping to Guatemala?
Not on the list we read. Amazon’s page of destinations with free international delivery (checked 24 September 2026) includes Costa Rica and Colombia at a US$35 minimum and Chile at US$49, but Guatemala is not on it.
Do I pay import tax on an Amazon order in Guatemala?
Yes. Amazon says customs fees and import duties are the recipient’s responsibility. In Guatemala, IVA is 12% on the value including freight plus any duty (DAI), and the regional customs regulation (RECAUCA art. 566) places courier parcels up to US$1,000 in a simplified procedure that is still subject to taxes. The only small-parcel exemption is for non-commercial parcels sent by family members, up to US$500 once every six months.
Is a Miami casillero cheaper than Amazon's international shipping?
For light parcels it can be. On Quick Box USA’s published rate card (read 3 September 2026), a 1 lb package costs US$3.30 freight plus a US$1.50 airport handling fee, US$4.80 before tax and local delivery, against Amazon’s US$9.99 floor per shipment. Amazon’s total depends on the items and only shows at checkout, so compare both on the actual cart. A casillero also receives items that are not eligible for AmazonGlobal.
Is there Amazon Prime in Guatemala?
We found no Amazon Prime programme for Guatemala on Amazon’s help pages (checked 24 September 2026). The help pages list a Prime plan page for Colombia, but none for Guatemala.
