Parque de la Industria is a fairground and exhibition park in zona 9. Those are the everyday rates on COPEREX’s parking page; it does not say whether a promoter can set a different price on a concert night, so check the event’s own announcement. eTicket lists the same street address (8 Calle 2-33, postal code 01009) on the shows it sells at the park. Who runs it
The grounds are managed by the Comité Permanente de Exposiciones (COPEREX), created by Decree-Law 67-73. On its about page COPEREX describes itself as a decentralised public entity attached to the Ministry of Economy, governed by a board of representatives of private-sector chambers, and funded by the services it sells, with no allocation from the state budget.
COPEREX gives this history: construction began in 1960 on what was named Parque Centroamérica, the park that became known as Parque de la Industria; it opened in 1971, and it has hosted fairs and exhibitions of every size since.
The Concha Acústica and the monuments
The Concha Acústica, the shell-shaped stage, is on COPEREX’s list of national heritage pieces on the grounds:
- Concha Acústica (1961). Designed by the Mexican architect Félix Candela, built by engineers Luis Vásquez and Mauricio Castillo: concrete slabs forming a hyperbolic paraboloid 20 metres high, built for musical and artistic performances (heritage register 1-1-15-193).
- Monumento a la Industria (1961). A 20-metre monochrome sculpture in marble, concrete and iron with mosaic inlays by Efraín Recinos, the same artist who later designed the national theatre. Water once ran from its top into what is known as the park’s fountain.
- Monumento al Beso (1961) and the hall murals by Recinos and Roberto González Goyri are on the same list.
