A typical SWIFT wire passes through 2-3 intermediary (correspondent) banks between origin and destination. Each intermediary can deduct USD 15-50 from the gross amount before delivering to the receiving bank — this does NOT appear in the Guatemalan bank's published fee. To avoid it, specify 'OUR' when ordering the wire (sender pays all fees, including intermediaries) instead of 'SHA' or 'BEN'. The difference between sent amount and credited amount in Guatemala can be USD 30-100 with no single bank charging it directly.

Over USD 10,000 the bank pauses the credit and asks for supporting documentation (commercial invoice, contract, inheritance certificate, tax declaration) under the IVE-03 form per Decree 67-2001.
