Zona 4 is Guatemala City’s creative district — home to 4 Grados Norte, the city’s first pedestrian street and the epicenter of its hipster bar, craft beer, and live music scene. While most of Zona 4 is a transitional commercial area around the northern bus terminal, the 4 Grados Norte strip on Via 6 has become the trendiest nightlife destination in the city.

The zone (population ~30,000, 1,502m elevation) straddles two worlds: the gritty, functional Guatemala City of bus terminals and wholesale markets, and the polished pedestrian street where young Guatemalans crowd rooftop bars and craft cocktail spots on weekends. If Zona 10 is the expat bubble, Zona 4 is where the locals go.

The Vibe

Zona 4 comes alive Thursday through Saturday nights. The 4 Grados Norte strip fills with 20-somethings and 30-somethings, and the overflow spills into surrounding streets. The crowd is more Guatemalan than Zona 10’s — less English, more reggaeton mixed with indie rock. El Cadejo usually has a line by 9 PM on Fridays.

During the day, the area around Via 6 is quieter — good for coworking at the cafes or exploring the street art. The bus terminal area is busy and functional but safe enough with normal awareness.
