Guatemala Passport Power: 135 Destinations

The Guatemalan passport is ranked 32nd globally on the Henley Passport Index, giving holders access to 135 destinations without needing to apply for a visa beforehand. This includes all of Europe’s Schengen area, most of the Americas, and key destinations in Asia like Japan, Singapore, and South Korea.

Regional Highlights

Europe (40+ countries): All Schengen countries for 90 days, plus the UK (with ETA), Ireland, Russia, Turkey, and the Balkans. This is one of the strongest benefits of the Guatemalan passport — full access to the world’s most popular tourist destinations.

Americas (20+ countries): Free movement across Central America through the CA-4 agreement (El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua). Visa-free access to all of South America except Guyana. Mexico requires a visa, but holders of valid US, Schengen, or other select visas are exempt.

Asia (15+ countries): Visa-free entry to Japan (90 days), Singapore (30 days), South Korea (90 days with K-ETA), Taiwan (90 days), Thailand (60 days), and Malaysia (30 days). India and Vietnam offer convenient eVisas.

Caribbean (15+ islands): Most Caribbean islands are visa-free including Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas, and the Dutch/British territories.

Important Notes

  • ETIAS coming soon: The EU’s new European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will require Guatemalans to register online (approx. EUR 7) before traveling to Europe. This is NOT a visa — it’s a quick online registration similar to the US ESTA.
  • Mexico visa workaround: If you have a valid US visa, you can enter Mexico without a separate Mexican visa.
  • CA-4 shared time: The 90-day CA-4 period is shared across Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Time spent in any CA-4 country counts toward the total.
  • Always verify: Requirements change. Check with the destination country’s embassy or consulate before booking travel.
