Pharmacies in Flores and Santa Elena (Peten)

Most visitors come to Flores/Santa Elena as a base for visiting Tikal and other Mayan ruins. Pharmacy options are concentrated in Santa Elena (the mainland town), while Flores island itself has very limited options. Stock up on any needed medications before heading into the jungle.

Where to Find Pharmacies

The Farmacia Moderna chain is the dominant local pharmacy in the area, with multiple locations in Santa Elena. Apomedix offers a higher standard of pharmaceutical care. All pharmacies are in Santa Elena – if you are staying on Flores island, plan a quick tuk-tuk ride across the causeway.

Before Your Tikal Trip

Buy sunscreen, insect repellent (essential for Peten), rehydration salts, and any prescription medications in Santa Elena before heading to Tikal. There are no pharmacies at the ruins, and the nearest store is at least 45 minutes away.
