Banks and ATMs in Antigua Guatemala

Antigua has excellent banking coverage for a tourist town, with multiple banks clustered near the Parque Central. International travelers should know which ATMs work best with foreign cards and how to minimize withdrawal fees.

Best ATM for Tourists

Banco Industrial (BI) near the central park charges only Q25 (~$3.25) per international withdrawal and reliably accepts Visa and MasterCard. BAM on 3a Calle Poniente is the second-best option with extended weekday hours until 7:30 PM. Both use the 5B network, the most reliable for international cards.

ATM Safety in Antigua

Antigua is generally safe, but use common-sense ATM precautions: use ATMs during daylight hours, cover your PIN, avoid withdrawing large amounts at once, and use ATMs inside banks or malls rather than street-facing ones.

Currency Exchange

Most banks in Antigua exchange USD to quetzales at rates close to the official Banguat rate. Avoid money changers on the street who may offer slightly better rates but carry counterfeit risk. The current exchange rate is updated daily on our site.
